connect external usb drive to 360 ?

You can watch .wmv files from an external with the 360, but it has to formatted in FAT32 or if you have video files bigger than 4gb, in the HSF+ file format. I currently use a 500GB external and stream hi-def wmv's to the 360, and the quality is fantastic. who needs blu-ray or hd-dvd!
Why do you have a 500GB external AND stream movies to your 360?

Best option tbh. Fat32 is a really poor choice for a file system on large drives. MS locked partition sizes to 32GB with XP and 2000 because they realised it was **** and the performance got worse the bigger the drive got.
Best to go with NTFS and stream it tbh.

Like PS3 I think as the filesystem is not limited to 4gb it's just external media that is limited to use fat32.

A typing error mate, i meant i play them off the 500GB external. My tv isnt in the best of places and is far away from the router so i have to take out a huge wire to connect the 360 to the router, which is unsightly and impractical. Plus having them on the external means i dont need to keep my computer on to watch anything on the 360.
