Thinking about either a 26 inch R87/88 or one of the Dell 24 inch screens.

I'll be using the screen for a few things:

DVD
Xbox 360
PC
TV (Freeview)

Which one would be best? What are the advantages/disadvantages beyond the fact that the Samsung wouldn't have a res as high as the Dell?

Edit - Forgot to mention I've only got a ATI 9700 non pro gfx card (remember those ;)). So is that a concern at all? However, I won't be gaming much on the PC so just need to know if thats a concern when using windows/browsing.

So you're saying in most cases it would be better to get the samsung? How much worse would dvd/360 and normal TV be on the Dell?

I'd rather spend £450 on a 32" lcd tv than a pc monitor.
For me 24" screens are way overpriced they should be £300 or less.

9700 will drive either just fine for general use - just don't expect to be able to run games at anywhere close to native resolution. :)

As for which to get, low resolution browsing on a big display is horrible, even for me with poor eyesight, and TV/DVD viewing on a high resolution screen isn't ideal either, so it really depends which you'll be doing most of.

Thought that was the case, lucky I don't play many PC games and have the xbox for that!

Where you say "low resolution browsing on a big display is horrible", how bad would it be on the Samsung? Is the start button going to be the size of a house brick :D Would like to have some idea of how bad it is as I'm thinking of probably going down the HDTV route (has the advantage of built in freeview too).

Get the dell 24".............;)

The 720p HD LCD tv's are good for what there made for and that's about it ...(I.E watching TV and playing Console Games on)

You would do best to save a little more and get a nice 20" monitor, and a tv. PC use won't be good on a HDTV generally, and tv won't be good on a monitor. There's a reason they make both ;)
