Hi all. I am looking to buy a new gfx card soon and am willing to spend about £150. My current card is a radeon 9800 pro 128M and is about 3 yr old. Thinking of going for an nvidia card this time.
What gfx card would you guys in the know recommend for 150 quid?
What is better, a high end 7 series gforce card or a low end 8 series gforce card?
cheers!

I play mostly first person shooters old and new. eg. medal of honor series, fear, farcry etc.
I was looking at the x1950, I see it's 82 quid. I have about 150 quid to spend, is it worth paying the xtra 70 quid for something better?

different res for different games. Old games like mohaa use high res and newer ones like fear I would use a low res.
Think an 8800 320 is a little over my price range anyhow.

Wait until tomorow as more will post i would go for x1950/8600gt/2600xt the 8600gts is £40 more so not sure if that worth it.
With luck someone will post with one of those cards

8600gts is deffo not worth the money, with the 8600 series the trick is to find the cheapest one you can get and then overclock it.
8600gt overclocks very well and gets 10k in 3dm05 with a core speed of 650mhz and mem at 1500mhz. card consumes only 45w of power too so if you can;t run that with your current power supply then you deserve a slap. :)

The PCI-E slot on the Asrock Dual VSTA is only 4x, so you might not be able to run a 8800GTS anyway as I think you have to have a 16x slot (Not certain if this is the case, but certainly read it somewhere).

If you went for the X1950 Pro, it would be a massive improvement over your existing card.

Edit: When I had the Dual VSTA, it ran an X1800XT 256MB fine, so I wouldn't have thought there would be too much problem with an X1950 Pro.

The PCI-e slot on these ASrock boards are physically 16x slots that run at 4x in terms of bandwidth.

Agreed. However, they are now old technology (DX9). Which is fine if you'll be upgrading again soon anyway. If I were you, I hold on until Nvidia 9series cards are released and try to pick up a cheap DX10 card. Just my $0.02 anyway!
