New Audi RS6 - 610BHP?

Sounds awesome, 610bhp:eek:...monstrous. But as Gibbo and Tom0 have said, the Audi RS series lack any real driver involvement...problem is that they are too refined. But that still wouldnt put me off buying either the RS4 or RS6 tbh.

/me goes off to ring my bank manager and see if he can loan me some money to buy one:p.

Allow me to elaborate. In my TDI I need to squeeze every last drop of power available so a manual 'box is a godsend. Surely though, the whole point of the RS6 with its "more power than you'll ever need" philosophy is that it's "point and squirt" so that even the most untalented driver can shout WEEEEEEEEEE with a big grin on his face with minimal effort. There's just no place for a manual 'box - hardcore purists would spend their £80k (?) on something a lot more suitable than a large, heavy Audi.

It's hardly going to be worth Audi developing a suitable manual transmission for the 8 people who would actually want one AND have the cash to buy such a car in the first place.

(Adz is going to look silly if they launch it with a manual option as standard)

You could probably get locked up for that:p

First time I heard that was in a review of a PC racing game. I thought it summed up the game perfectly. You just pointed the car in the vague direction you wanted to go, hit the throttle key (on or off), hit 400mph and only slowed down if a bend > 90 degrees came up. That's what I imagine the RS6 is supposed to be like. It's an ego massager - no driving skill required.

If you think autos/SMG are for girls and homosexuals then you'll probably think the same about the plush interior, giant boot, enough sound deadening that you could explode a bomb in the engine bay and not hear a thing. Buy a Noble :).

All that'll happen is BMW will raise their game next time round and bring out cars which make the current RS line weep. For the moment though, the RS cars are awesome. I think I'd still rather have an M series BMW though.

I went to london zoo the other weekend with my good lady, but the real beast we were treated to was the R8 driving around Regents park.

AWSOME Sound and AWSOME lines

610BHP. Why? Where will it end?

It doesn't make sense. I can't think for the life of me why on earth anyone would need a car like that, to go as fast as that will.

Still, I wouldn't say no:D

Autocar Road Test.....2008

For:

Great interior, fantastic performance, lovely package, lovely engine

Against:

Bad damping, poor steering feel, chasis lacks sharpness, heavy and understeery

Audi are making some lovely cars, I bought the wife one only the other week, but as a performance brand they still have someway to go. The RS4 is a good attempt, and better than they have managed to produce in some years but I still found it lacked something. The R8 looks an amazing package but in V8 form I think it is under engined and needs the V10. It also has an odd front overhang and I don't like the plastic stuff down the side either. I am yet to drive one, but I have sat in one and spent a good deal of time having a nose around it and its build quality is not under question.

I sense Audi at are seeing a little of "The Emperor's New Clothes" syndrome at the moment, as I felt they did with the Mk1 TT. All the journals raved about it when it arrived, even said it handled much better than other Audi's which in retrospect it didn't. The RS4 is MUCH better, but I still felt it lacked something even compared to my E46 M3. It was quicker, but not as good to drive quickly if that makes sense.

My 2p's worth anywho:p

Hi there

The more power means it will do 30-70mph quicker. :)

Just because you've got 600BHP does not mean you need to travel at 200mph. ;)

I predict the RS6 will hit 60mph in 3.8s-4.2s area. 0-100mph will come up in around 8-9s and it will have a top speed of 195mph.
Its got the power, torque for huge performance but where Audi might loose out if it weighs an absurd amount. Even if the handling is not the best the car will still sell out because RS6's especially in Avant form have always sold very well.

The performance of a 620 BHP Scania artic tractor (i.e. minus the trailer) is nothing short of staggering (it weighs circa 8 tons) I can't imagine what 610BHP (with a hell of a lot less torque mind you) feels like in a bloomin' car!

Cars will very soon be way past truck BHP fighures, which is frankly, absurd imo!

Still - Can't say I'd turn one down!
