New Audi RS6 - 610BHP?

Well a friend came past my GT3 in his 660bhp SL65 AMG at the weekend like it was parked. V12 with twin turbo's and 900lbs of torque, I hear it made the day 1 second longer because it slowed the earth down!:p

Believe it or not its actually the M5 that only has a manual box option in the USA.

Hi there

I've got too say I love the SMG gearbox in the CSL and would certainly take it over a manual, its a great system. :)

The only worry I ever have is the fact it could potentially go wrong at any time with it been an electronic system.

Thats the advantage of a manual, no advanced electronics, just a stick and some cogs. :)

Now thats a car i would use for touring. Huge amounts of torque lovely jubbly.

What leads you to this conclusion?

Hi there

Well I've done several flowcharts, many calculations from the top secret information Audi have given me and from using all the figures I have thats what I came up with. Then I looked at Audi's actual claimed top speed which agreed with my figures.

Obviously I am talking out of my arse and it was just a random figure I plucked from the air, muhahahaha :D

I would have thought higher. An m5 does around 205mph when delimited. I would say around the same as the audi will be abit heavier.

Weight is largely irrelevant. It's a simple battle between power required to keep the car accelerating against the forces holding it back.
If the M5 can break 200mph with 520 ish BHP, i'd comfortably expect the higher powered Audi to be 8-10mph faster (unless prevented from doing so by lower gearing)

I don't know why anyone would buy the SL65 AMG when it's about 50 grand more than the SL55 AMG. There isn't that much between them other than the engine and the fact the 65 is hand built (apparently).

I hope it looks a lot better than that new S6. That looks crap. Wheels are crap.

Performance side of things, its staggering! If its anywhere near 610bhp, its going to be bloody quick :D

Both are hand built by one engineer, difference is that the 55 is 500bhp supercharged v8, 65 is a 600bhp twin turbo v12.

Based on the rest of the A6 range, I'm guessing 208 mph too.

My mum (oh noes a woman driver ) used to have an rs6 saloon, was amazingly quick and comfy, did the usual London to Crewe blasts very quickly indeed. That only had 450hp, this thing must be amazing :D

I suggest your perspective is somewhat different to the owners...;)

I had the same happen with me I thought it was just a diesel one about a inch from my rear bumper, I pulled over dropping 2 gears and nailing it this would generally jump me forward a few cars length over most cars caught unaware however the thing went passed me like I had done an emergency stop and it sounded like a hurricane on the way past utterly superb sound !.

I do agree with the other RS6 comments it will be very quick but will lack the handling finesse due to its weight however I bet it will a big step up from the last RS6 and will sell well as a lot of people will prefer having that amount of power going through all four wheels rather than just the rears on the Merc/BMW rivals as a lot of drivers will use the power in straight line but few will be chucking the cars round corners on the limit of the handling/grip.

On the subject of SL65's I've been looking at the used SL's on Pistonheads etc lately and couldnt help but notice a few SL65 'replicas' all badged up with V12 BiTurbo etc etc.

Errr, why? One was even an SL55 AMG. Why would you want to rebadge an SL55 as an SL65? Just who are you going to impress who wouldnt be impressed by an SL55? And wouldnt be able to spot your sham the second you turned the key..

evo's got proper spyshots of it round the 'ring

If I were that rich I'd probably save up for the SLR.

£150,000 is a stupid sum of money. In fact you could almost get a 911 Turbo an R32 and an S3 for that.

Still, I guess if he loves the SL then it's the way forward. My uncle has the SL600 and it's an awesome, awesome, awesome ride. Likewise, I don't know why he didn't go for the 55AMG though. I think he got some sort of discount on the 600 as it was ordered by someone else and returned straight away.
