Stupid piece of cr@p Alfa Romeo components and their 'made from recycled dustin lids' quality....

Went to cinema last night with my sister in her Alfa 147 and as we were moving into a parking space she goes, "Oh....", so I say to her whats up and she says the car won't go into reverse gear and the gearlever is all floppy. We swap seats and I have a got and indeed it feels like the spring mechanism on the gear selector has gone as it won't slot into 3,4,5 or R. 1st and 2nd are there but you slot it into 3 or 5, it goes into 1st and when you, and 2nd when you try 4 or R. Gear lever is all floppy as well and won't self centre....

Went to the garage today as she at work and was told that the gear selector cable has simply snapped. Snapped???!!? How many cars have gear selector cable that simply snap?

Nice car but some of the components seem to be made out of recycled jelly beans....trouble is although the components seems to be rubbish quality and don't last long, a new selector cable (which had to be bought in a kit and wasn't available seperately) cost £250 inc fitting....

Now thats quality motoring :p

:D Had to call the AA who managed to wedge it in second and tie the gear lever in place to stop it jumping out then drove it 12 miles to my mechanic with them following incase I had any problems :p

Only cost twenty something quid to fix though in its defense

Loads of modern (and quite a few older) cars use cables for gear selection, and a cables favourite failure mode is snapping. Still a bit poor for a relatively new car though.

sorry i should have mentioned the 146ti and the 156v6 ive done the miles in;)

Two words for you fella, reliability survey, even an owner has to admit they aint up to scratch when compared to the likes of Nissan / Toyota / Bmw and the such, however as cars i really like some of the Alfas, must admit they are getting better but still not as good as some of the others.

my JTD has been the most reliable car ive had. had it 3 years now, its 53 plate and only needed wishbones on the fron, tires, and brake discs/pads.

I am shocked how low Audi is on that Survey. I have had 2 and no trouble to speak of, bar dodgy DIS display in the A4 and shonky indicators and fuel guage in the TT. No breakdowns yet!

(marginaly)Better than both Audi and Saab though, if that report is to be believed.

Interesting that the average Subaru repair cost is second highest, not far behind Porsche.

Warranty faults so it could be anything, note owners who buy and Audi will be more fussy and return the car back for work even if something small is wrong, so this could be the reason for some unexpected results.

You can't post something to prove a point then start making excuses for other brands :p
