Im currently using the fan only cables-sorry I didnt specify that-so do you mean that on the fan only cables it adjusts the fan speeds? As a result, would plugging in a normal cable keep them at max at all times? Is that what you meant? I dont mean to question you, it just seems counterintuitive otherwise.
While we are at it, is there any way of plugging the Corsair PSU into the mobo so I can read its fan speed? My mobo (P35C-DS3R) has the socket, but the PSU doesnt seem to have a cable for it.
Yes it's a lower voltage. I can't remember what it is but it's either 7v or 5v. I'd guess at 7v but it's easy to check it if you have a multimeter. It's labelled as fan only because it's wired to provide a lower voltage. So don't ever plug a fan only molex into a HDD or whatever unless you want it to blow.Is the fan only cable on my Corsair HX520W PSU a lower voltage? Is this why it is "fan only"? If so, would plugging a regular cable into the fans rather than this one make them spin faster? My case temps are a little warm.
The Corsair HX520 has no temperature controlled fan speed feature for case fans. Unless you mean the fan in the PSU which is temp controlled. No, it will slow then down depending on temps and at most speed up to max speed which is same as you have now, as its 12v.
No, by fan only, its a molex with the 12v and 0v only on it and splits it. Its a pointless cable tbh. You can plug a fan molex in to any molex.

The 'fan only' cable on corsairs is 12 volts. I modded mine to run the fans at 5 volts.
