2900xt or 8800gtx

Your point? it consumes more power meaning it needs a better heat sink design, just means the GTX is more efficient as it uses less power yet being faster and therefore doesn't need such a beefy heat sink design.

At the end of the day it all comes down to personal opinion, what some consider silent will be loud to others.

I have used 8800GTS/2900XT/8800GTX in the same case and under the same conditions and the only way I could see the 2900XT being silent would be to install several high RPM case fans so that it doesn't get as hot, but then how does replacing one noise source with another make things any quieter?

I do not own or will own the X2900XT, so silly to label me a fanboy :rolleyes:. I have no interest in this card at all :o. Yes, I read up on it and see other peoples findings from this forum on their cards as well as updated reviews. That's why I commented in this thread as I feel as I have a good enough of an understanding to post something of relevance. Something which you didn't care to even think about with adding in the 8800GTS even though it wasn't in question.

Do you not think the statement below from my last post is very true concerning DX10 drivers?. All I was saying is that it is too early to judge on DX10 performances. I never once said that the X2900 was better at DX10. In fact it was you who brought DX10 up so why call me the fanboy and blame me for making excuses up for a card I'm not really interested in owning?.

As I just said. DX10 drivers are still in their infancy. There's still a lot of work to be done by both Nvidia and AMD in this department. So just because it has the lead at the moment, doesn't mean that it will stay that way. To be honest we can't really judge on DX10 performances as they will chop and change for a little while yet I'd imagine.

I'm really sorry for posting this but I can't have someone talk utter carp about me and also predict that I love the X2900 lol.

I've already posted that the GTX is the one but following that (In my opinion) is the X2900XT.

Go and read the hardocp COJ article. dx10 mode the 2900 and gts trade blows. Safe to say at the minute dx10 performance for both platforms is very immature.

couldn't have expected much else from this forum though. the 8800gtx is the fastes. its by far the most efficient of the two. it is also quieter by a far margin......


......it also costs more. make your own mind up as to which way you want to go, but dont bother listing to half the people on here defending their own cards. they do so very narrow mindedly.

Not everyone defends there own cards, I think I'm the oposite, but then again I've had an 8800GTS and now a 2900XT.

I suppose so, I defended the PS2 saying it was better than an Xbox when it really was not lol and ended up selling my PS2 for an xbox, just for modding it tho.

But with cards, I think the 8800GTS is the faster card than the 2900XT, I've had both cards, but then again, config is abit different from when I had the GTS and I never tried Bioshock and other games I've just started playing in the time I had the 2900.

I did, DX10 performanace was faster on the GTS with and without AA in DX10, 2900XT was faster in DX9, i'm sure drivers will improve performance but I can only judge performance on what we got now since I lack a crystal ball.

Do you have one? Because I fail to see the fuss about "noise" and about "heat"? My system runs super cool and putting a HD2900XT which is idling in low 50s compared to a X800Xl which idled in low 30s caused no difference whatsoever to ambient temps or any other temp.

Is your 2900 silent in the low 50's? My is always at 31% and gets it idling at 45 degrees.

That may have been at most half my fault for sutbly starting the 2900 v gts war after it got mentioned in an earlier post. I was trying to work out which one to go for when I upgrade soon. By the looks of all this I may have to toss a coin! :p

But then once I get it I'll be arguing its so much better than the one i didnt! :D
