****. Sorry to be reading this. If they don't catch him then you will have to pay.
There is a pot of money for people to use when hit by uninsured drivers but the excess is quite high on it.

The wing is an easy fix if you can source one in the same colour but the wheel looks pretty buggered :(

The wheel itself i "think" is fine, its just the axel or whatever that attaches it to the steering rack which is pretty severly bent out of shape which is why the wheel sits so far back in the arch.

You can contact the Motor Insurers Bureau (01908 240000) and open a case with them.

What if the motorist cannot be identified?

If you have been injured by a vehicle that does not stop, you will be able to submit a claim under the Untraced Drivers' Agreement. Damage to property claims can only be considered if the accident occurred on or after 14 February 2003.

The accident must be reported to the police within 5 days and a claim made within 9 months. It is a requirement that the vehicle causing the damage must be identified as a condition of being able to claim for property damage. Property claims are subject to a £300 excess.

If you have been injured you must report the accident within 14 days to the police or as soon as reasonably possible.

It still might be insured, get the reg number and give it to your legal protection insurers (if you have any) and they can search whether it is insured or not.

Can you insure an un-taxed car?

Yep, no problem. Same as you can insure a car with no mot, wrong log book keeper, driver drunk etc.

If the car is insured - the car is insured.

You still have a right to claim irrespective of the circumstances. You just need to know if that car is insured.

Ah i see, so who are these "legal protection insurers" to whom i need to contact? I'm with admiral if that makes a difference.

You might have paid an extra £15 or so for legal protection. Ring them and check whether you did.

You should have with TP cover...!
