Can anyone help on this problem,I've just realised that my computer is still sort of running after shutdown,my computer shut's down as normal and lcd turns off but my fan's and even harddrive is still running for some reason.

I've recently changed from an agp graphics card to a pci-e but didn't re-install windows,i obviously un-installed drivers and switched in bios to pci-e as primary graphics and i also changed some memory timings.

Could changing settings in bios cause something like this?

Also when the comp is supposed to be shutdown i can still open a dvd drive and when i shut the drive my case light is active so im wondering if windows is still somehow running.

My set up is in sig if anyone can help.

I was experiencing something similar recently. I was running my gfx card and a hard drive off a single cable from the psu, once they were hooked up individually though (i had a spare molex cable free) the problem went away. Do you have any other kit running off the same lead thats connected to the new gfx card?

Make sure you have at least basic power management enabled in bios... Although its not normally an issue, if you turn it all off, then sometimes the command to turn off the PC is ignored.

I guess the graphics card is getting a shutdown request, hence your monitor turns off, or perhaps the graphics card is just displaying nothing.. same deal monitor switches to power save mode.

Windows 95/98/2000 used to say 'It is now safe to turn off your PC' when power management was disabled... Never tried with XP, but perhaps they forgot to add that, assuming everyone would know better.. Or perhaps your drivers/graphics card whatever are missing the final message. Eitherway, check powermanagement in bios.
