i be using a lot of secondary reserch for my project and my project supervisor say that i will not get a high mark unless i conduct some of my own primary research. he told me to locate some small organisation that have experience in setting up open source software, i used search engines but they just give a load of rubbish
can anyone give me some ideas ?

You could also mention what tactics a certain other OS manufacturer is using to try and thwart the adoption of open source OSes in 3rd world countries, and the reasoning behind these tactics.

That's a very good one, a lot of depth and angles in that one. (and it's not just OS manufacturers at it either, certain hardware manufactures too :()

I don't see how they would let you do a project based on that topic, it's already been said, but it doesn't sound technical enough.

Are you developing an open source app? Maybe you could customise a Linux distro for use in the third world? (maybe old ground, but still could be interesting, dunno if there is enough it in though)
Even if you don't have much experience programming or with using Linux, part of the project is learning, if you enjoy doing it then you'll pick it up quickly.

If you want to find opensource projects, check http://freshmeat.net/ and http://sourceforge.net. What are you researching though?

Perhaps you could learn to program and make some sort of networking software that uses the internet?

Or maybe a program that scans the computer for security flaws.

Or maybe you could write about security problems in companies.
