I'm interested to see what you'd define as your 'perfect' phone. Many people have different preferences, especially when it comes to screen sizes!

It could be from scratch or taking the best from different phones. Personally, mine would be:

HTC One (M7) frame with a textured back for grip (or the new Moto X) - I love the rounded feel but also the grippy finish on the S5
Front facing speakers
Samsung's new Octa core processor as it's more efficient than the 801 from what I've seen
4.7 Inch screen, maybe 5 inch if it means bigger battery. 1080p AMOLED
Oppo's charging capabilities
OnePlus' pricing
S5 camera, maybe the nokia 930's camera.
64GB Storage
Removable back for battery swap (or how the HTC Desire HD did it with just the bottom bit being removable.

How about everyone else? What matters to you most in a smartphone?

m7 frame in silver, but larger

6" edge-to-edge display (think Ascend Mate 7)

a 1080p display (nothing too ridiculous as i want a decent battery life)

A silent switch like an iphone

No other buttons apart from a power button

wireless charging

always listening chip like moto x

IR blaster through the power button (reduce busyness of the body)

HTC One M8 Body

5.5" QHD Display
Snapdragon 810 64bit
16mp+ Camera with OIS (Dual Flash)
4GB Ram
64GB Storage

SD Card Reader
Removable Battery

Stock and Unlocked Android L (however, whoever makes the phone needs to apply a really great skin as the google android l icons are shocking)

Factory fitted glass screen protector

and a personal request, a micro sd cable which can be plugged in either way, magnetised with a small proximity led light
also, perhaps having easy to replace parts such as rear back and side strips. That way, if you get any scratches you can change it (or a colour change if you're bored)

Lumia 930 look
Htc m8 stereo front speakers
1080p 5.5" sapphire screen, with super sensitive touch & glance, using what ever screen is best for sunlight readability and low reflection.
Lumia 1020 camera, ois, dual flash etc. Or even a newer upgraded version
Water and dustproof. (so most likely no removable back, not an issue if the battery is good)
Always listening chip like moto x
Snapdragon 810
4gb ram
64gb memory
micro sd card
NFC
Wireless charger
Electronic Compass
~4000mah battery, preferably something like Toshiba SCiB that can be charged to 80% in 10mins, they have slightly lower energy density but I don't think it's much.
Dedicated buttons for back/home/search, as well as volume, power, camera
Available with wp8.1 or android. Should also come in a 4.7" variety for those who like a smaller phone.

Nothing much that my phone doesn't already give. Perhaps a better quality camera. And a longer lasting battery.

Same for me, we're at a stage now where there isn't really much that the very latest devices can offer that are truly "revolutionary" (for want of a less Apple-esque word). I'd say an iPhone 6 with a slightly smaller display (4.5" or so), slightly thicker to accommodate for a bigger battery (2750mAH or so?), iOS 8 (if it shapes up as expected) and...that's it really.

5.5 inch screen
1080p
Bright enough to use during sunny days (very hard)
virtually no bezel (need some for practicality)
Kevlar shell - like Motorola razr
Hard camera button (I hate not having this as I do now) + volume + power
At least 32gb internal
Micro SD
Full 4g
Stereo front facing good quality speakers
Nice DAC
Fm receiver
Epic full rgb led.. Ideally front and rear facing and a strip.. Perhaps across the top bezel
Charger port on side (had this on my old phone... So much better than bottom)
3gb ram
Happy with 801 cpu
Android stock
Tap to wake (love this)
Decent camera (never had this) and where flash actually helps!!
3500mAh battery or more please

Although I agree, why can't one phone just have all the good specs. Rather than split between several phones and about 4 manufacturers.

We won't see another revolutionary mobile phone until there are revolutionary changes in battery and/or display technology.

The only caveat to this would be if wearable devices became the primary interface and the phone becomes simply a modem and battery pack.

Note 3 with

Smaller Bezels, Aluminium body, larger battery.

For me the Note 3 is almost perfect. Battery life is a funny one as I'm sure I was getting 30% screen on time when I first got it to now
