Be careful with cheap pairs, they usually do more damage than not wearing any. I always go for a polarised lens where possible.

Truth is, you can't get half decent sunglasses for cheap. If you want proper protection, you need to pay for it.

If you're in the south, then Gunwharf Quays is your place. Oakley factory outlet store here, plenty of polarised lenses in whatever colour shade or style you might fancy. All priced decently, the majority in the £75 to £125 range.

You won't really beat an Oakley HDO lens for quality and minimising reflections or misting/repelling water. Had plenty of Ray Bans in-between but always gone back to Oakley.

Chaps. Regarding Hawkers, I'm after a pair

Shall I go for the classic or premium ?

Also the colours, are there certain colours for a particular use? I.e. For driving I should buy a certain lens colour or do they all perform the same ?

got some maui jim peahi a month or so back along with a gorrila grip cord so i dont lose them, got the glass lenses and the clarity is amazing ,you can also see so much more like the subtle shading of differant greens in the grass ,tbh its like going from 720p to 4k on a sunny day. also the hinges make sure you get a perfect fit
got them from the optic shop and you will probably be offered at least 10% code ,think i paid around £125 inc cord .

With sunglasses you get what you pay for. Get some with good lenses and well made and you will be spending ~£120 but they will last a long time. I still use my dads early Raybans from the 80s and they are great. Things to look out for - General fit and arm hinges.

These are the ones I use

I have tried multiple cheaper sunglasses and the fit sometimes feel off, arms break easily and the lenses feel like they do nothing. I always just get £1 ones from pound land for festivals because I know they end up getting lost the first night

Is this really true, when half of the sunglasses out there are manufactured by one company? Ray Bans used to be $29 sunglasses for the same thing 15 years back, and they are now in the $100+ market. That seems like paying over the odds, not getting what you pay for. The fact is that sunglasses are now fashion accessories, not functional items, for the most part. Luxottica basically makes all of the glasses out there and have slowly been cranking prices up over time.

I bought these the other day, £16 for polarised lenses. Sure they are made from light plastic, but to my eyes they are good lenses and they are really comfortable

For top end the Maui Jims are the ones to go for

From what I've read over last day or two, Luxottica own the big brands and have dropped the quality on Oakley and ray bans.

All Maui jims are polarised and their optics are meant to be the best.

They have a stockist page on their website, I'm going to check my local opticians over next few days to try some on

In the meantime I've ordered a pair of Hawkers. Unsure which lense colour to go for so went for the black .

Anyone know the differences in the lense colours in terms of clarity ?

I always sooner or later forget I have glasses in a coat and sit on them :o Superdrug are doing an offer for ones good enough to be of use driving into eyelevel sunlight. Problem is it was on hotukdeals so you might find the good stock is gone, but bookmark for later. Free delivery, I got two pairs under a tenner
