6hr 28 (8hr 30 total - plugged into charger at 8% left) min screen on time with Wi-Fi, a bit of 4g and location, audio enhancer, video enhancer and max res + performance mode for quite a bit. Extremely heavy use with about 2hrs gaming (mage and minions on 3d, max details - my note4 was dying and laggingon this), 2hrs video streaming on 1440p via twitch and amazon video and rest downloading, installing, uninstalling and setting up themes/apps/icons non-stop with sync on from 6 email inboxes and listening to music during this. I use Accubattery Pro version and it reports almost 7hrs SOT after charging on 100%.
Pretty impressed - that's on the standard s8.
Also don't have any of those "Samsung glitches" mentioned in the review, perhaps have been fixed with the first update or are exclusive to snapdragon version of the phone.
Very happy with the phone, even the Wi-Fi and 4g are faster than on my note4. Not kidding but yesterday I did a speed test as I was surprised how good the Wi-Fi is considering I've had router problems recently and had to revert to 2.4ghz network only and the s8 pulled out 60mb/s while the note4 was struggling with 14mb/s right next to it! Both on same settings etc, I had to redo the test few times as I couldn't believe.
The screen looks better and the audio is as well on the s8.
Very happy with it so far. I'm getting to liking the edge stuff as well, paid few pennies for note app which has timed reminders in it as well, very handy.
I like how you can control music from AOD and go straight into e-mail or message from it.
Iris scanner and finger print sensor work very well as well. I have not been smudging camera lens but then again I'm sllightly more dexterous than the average person but I think you'd have to be pretty sloppy to do it or at least with a case on - I can see how this could be a problem for someone with big hands and no case.
I'm using the Ringke Fusion Clear case on it - the completely clear version although I wish I had picked the one with darkened/smoked sides as the clear sides stand out quite a bit - I think this is fair bit thicker than the slim flexy Samsung case or other ones but doesn't feel like adding bulk at all and feels very solid and seems to be offering great protection, especially on the back - I'm not going to test it but I can easily see it dropping from 5 feet and ending up completely unscathed. All this for 6.99£ and can return it on Prime if you don't like it I guess.
Also, the s8, due to being bit narrower than the note 4 (also one of the reasons why I didn't go for s8 plus) fits into my hidden side pocket in my winter/snowboard jacket that has earphones canal running from it.
I know this is what a lot of note 4 or similar big phone users are thinking about but the screen does not seem that much smaller for viewing content at all - I did use the fit to screen option while watching on Twitch, Amazon Video and Anime Mobile and at no point have I felt like I'm missing out or want more screen. The fit to screen only cuts out about a milimiter or so on each side so even when watching content with subtitles it's not been a problem.
The Earphones - I've only put them on for about 10 minutes out of curiosity and can say the following compared to my ie80s which as some of you will know are still within the top5 best earphones available on the market (£300+ RRP for those who don't know and have only been known to be bested by £800 grados until not long ago). The included pair seems a bit over zealous, it wants to do everything and hit every range but seems to struggling a bit. It has good range compared to the basic stuff you used to get and I would say it's got good highs and mids - very clear sounding. They do lack on the lows and base department so if you're a fan of big bass then you might need to adjust your equalizer or look elsewhere. Keep in mind that this is in comparison to top range earphones and headphones - I'm sure they're adequate if you've never had an £80+ pair.
Correct me if I'm wrong but they do seem to be noise cancelling pair and the noise cancelling seems to be good and unobtrusive (no hiss). I really could only tell by snapping my fingers next to my ear and have not been able to hear it. They do also seem bit loud. The sound reproduction does leave a bit to desire but again, this is comparing to some of the best on the market. Unfortunately I don't have a £9.99 pair to compare but I did have a 2yr old £25 pair of noise cancelling ones that had to be charged and would say that the "sky are better overall. Usually good earphones do take about 2 weeks to break in so these could end up better. I'd rate them 3.5/5 (with ie80/grado being the 5/5+ mark and low end shure etc around £100+ Mark being 4/5). The non tangle cable is also nice and you can control music etc from it which is bonus.
That's all I can think of for now!
