No, sounds like it's stuck at 3d clocks and not dropping down to 2d clocks.

There must be a prog or setting that is preventing it from downclocking.

Try checking Nvidia control panel, if you are set to prefer maximum performance try changing it to adaptive or something like that, can't remember exactly what the setting is but it should then allow your card to clock back down.

Well, I'm now a 1080 owner since my Titan XP bricked itself. It's a newer one with the faster memory, EVGA Hybrid FTW. Boosts to just over 2Ghz just by using precisionX to go to 120% and temps are good because it's a hybrid.

It's "Ok" - I'm about 15FPS down on Forza Horizon 3 on ultra at 1440p (with a 4K monitor attached too) using gsync.
Couldn't justify money on another TXP and this 1080 was £600!!! It'll tide me over for 12 months until something better comes out.

Or pickup another 1080 at some point if a bargain presents itself and run SLI.

My EVGA GTX 1080 FTW ACX3.0 has died it had the extra thermal pads as I checked in the past.

I've opened a support ticket with EVGA, never had. To rma anything before. Anyone rma'd a 1080 with EVGA before? Wondering if I'll get exactly the same model back or not.

An interesting and expensive weekend.

Friday afternoon: My Palit 1080, which I was so smug about getting cheap a month or two ago, decided it had had enough of my smugness and lunched itself two minutes after booting. I is not happy.
Friday evening: Went a bit mad and bought a 1080 hybrid card, while hoping I can RMA the Palit at some point. New card was expensive.
Saturday morning: Experienced serious buyers remorse overnight and received new card that afternoon.
Late Saturday evening: Came to the conclusion hybrid cards are **** and £600 is way too much for a GFX card. Sure it has very good boost speeds, but the persistent low noise even from the slow spinning blower fan and faint noise/vibration? from the pump was driving me to distraction!
Gone midnight Sunday: Arranged return to a certain well known seller of everything and ordered a stand in replacement/much needed cheapo testing card.
Sunday afternoon: New card arrives in just over 14 hours! My 1800x system now has a Geforce GT710 as its GPU.

It's been a weird weekend, and not the relaxing one I'd been hoping for! Now I need to take a deep breath and think about what to do next.

Mostly made up my mind to get a 1080. I've seen a Gigabyte G1 at £500 an Aourus at £530 but then for a little bit more there is a second had 1080ti at £575 on sale.

Plan is to get a 1400p 144Hz monitor.

Thoughts? I'm attracted to cheap and cheerful but the extra £30 for the Aourus seems worth it. Not sure how comfortable I feel spending so much on a second hand card. And probably don't really need all that power.
