Hi

I’m fault testing my pc which currently has an MSI 850 psu in…only 5 months old. PC now won’t boot and I’ve tried recommended tests.

I want to test if it’s the PSU and just want the cheapest to do so. My rig is

X99 sabertooth
5820k
2070 super

If I unplug all the drives and the 2070 I should be able to test the MB on quite a low wattage PSU.

would a Corsair 450w do the job?

thanks

I would say that you really need to test at full load with GPU and drives as you could potentially miss issues that would affect your full build. That aside it would depend on the TDP of your components.

There won't be any PSUs with the required connectors that couldn't boot a modern system, 350 is normally the lowest and that would be fine. Please don't buy some £10 fire hazard though :p

You're going to need some graphics card, because that CPU doesn't have integrated GPU.

And for test PSU woudn't get any cheapest models.
Better to have somethin which can be expected to last and can be used also in mainstream gaming PC, if friend/neighbour etc needs PSU for one.
