Why aren't vegans eating the food they ask for?

My previous manager was a vegetarian and speaking to her about these types of products plant based alternatives to meat just wasn't appealing to her. Looking at the marketing on a lot of these products there often aimed at people who enjoy meat but maybe looking to cut back on their meat consumption. Imo the issue with that approach is plant based meat alternatives aren't any cheaper then what it's meant to be replacing and doesn't taste as good.

There was a Vegan factory near where I live. Lasted a couple of years and went out of business owing 6 million in 23.

Heather Mills bought the factory but as of 2025 it is still closed.

When I was managing in a Pizza Factory we also did Vegan Pizza's. Ultra processed rubbish that sold in absolutely tiny amounts. Regular Pizza's must have been producing in favour of 500:1 at least.

Probably because they suck. I have to eat the vegan ones as I'm lactose intolerant and they're absolutely pitiful when compared to any Goodfellas pizza, for example.

Buy some lactase pills. Chomp one then 30 minutes later stuff yourself with cheesy goodness.

Only decent supermarket pizzas I've found are the Crosta Mollica ones which do a pretty decent impression of a freshly baked neopolitan.

They aren't meant to be cheaper, or healthier, but replace the convenience and experience. That provides a certain market for new vegans or the occasional meat replacement, but most experienced vegans see little value in most of the items. The goal of the products is to reduce environmental impact and animal suffering, not provide a healthy cheap alternative to meat.

The taste is subjective and variable. Some products surpass cheap meat, others are OK but not quite as good, and some things are best avoided (vegan cheese!).

One things I have never really understood - Vegans dont want to eat meat etc - so why are so many Vegan products pretend meat i.e Sausages, burgers etc ??

So they can pretend they are eating meat while maintaining the smug "I'm a Vegan" high ground ?

Did anyone, anywhere, ever say "I could murder a good plate of Vegan sausage and mash now"

I'm not sure it was ever meant for vegans but more so vegan-curious people and businesses were trying to create/monopolise a market that clearly has failed.

It is for people that want to reduce meat consumption or are starting pit on a vegan lifestyle. They aren't meant for vegans with more experience cooking.

Also, ot is false to say that vegans don't want to eat meat in the sense that for many vegans they love the taste of meat but do not want to have the environmental impact or animal suffering. I would hope that of meat substitutes were developed to be indistinguishable from real meat at equal or lower prices there wouldn't be a single animal raised in captivity.

I’m veggie rather than vegan and very occasionally buy this stuff when I’m really craving a burger or meat pie but it’s horrendously ultra processed and I try to avoid UPF where possible. Most of my meals are based around much cheaper and more nutritious whole food options.

Some of the fake meat options are pretty convincing though and I suspect a lot of meat eaters wouldn’t tell if you swapped them out (not the Gucci belt wearers ITT obviously). Generally ultra processed meat is easier to copy (sausages etc).

Next bit is a general response not to quoted

Why does this food simulate the animal corpse variety ? number 1 to try and capture the carnivores when they do the occasional bit of virtue signaling and suddenly want to look as though they care about the environment and animals
number two people want similar textures and tastes but without anything's throat being cut , weird yeah ? err no its not they are they are the better person you all know it that's why your so touchy and angry grrrrrr
awwwwww is you all confused and pent up

  • “I eat meat; I don’t like to hurt animals” (classic dissonance theory focusing on inconsistency),
  • “I eat meat; eating meat harms animals” (the new look dissonance emphasizing aversive consequences), and
  • “I eat meat; compassionate people don’t hurt animals” (self-consistency/self-affirmation approaches emphasizing threats to self-integrity)
In his research, Rothgerber identified at least fifteen defenses omnivores use to both “prevent and reduce the moral guilt associated with eating meat. One of these methods is to attack the person who triggered the discomfort.
Because it’s so distressing to confront the moral conflict of both caring about and eating animals, people may instead defensively attack vegans to protect their moral sense of self. Interestingly, the source of this particular animosity toward vegans is not disagreement, but actually a shared value and belief: that it’s wrong to harm animals.

Boom thats it in a nutshell
bye again ,sucks being you :p

I don't dislike vegans. I don't dislike any group for being a group. Couldn't care less.

No, that's incorrect, sorry.

If sanctimonious gasbags are a group then yes I do dislike one group of people.
