Is the LG C5 42" good as a monitor?

Hi all,

Just bought a 5090(!) and want to get a 4K screen to go with it. Ive heard good things about the LG C5 42 inch, my only concern is how it would display a desktop i.e. text. Is it a compromise compared to a standard PC monitor or is it just as good? Open to any suggestions on others monitors/TVs as well.

Many thanks

If you have the cash and room for it the 48" G5 is even better, especially in HDR brightness

I was originally thinking of getting a 42 but my best sadly my desk is not big enough. If you have a big enough desk and dont plan on having too many extra monitors you can probs make it work.

The text can be a bit funky on my C2 due to the WRGB, but after the first few months I didn't really notice it anymore.

I think it should be fine, I use an LG G4 55" and haven't noticed anything untoward, when initially installed text was a bit on the ropey side and I was worried I had made a big expensive mistake but with some tuning and adjustment I am happy, of course at my size the aliasing is a bit more noticeable, could really do with a resolution step between 4k and 8k for large screens.

Sitting here with my laptop with IPS LCD next to my TV I would not say there is a great deal of difference in the text apart from the mentioned aliasing/crispness difference a tight PPI gives on a 16" 2.5k vs 55" 4K OLED screen.

My screen is about 1m away, 55" is a bit on the big side and felt weird initially like the edges bent outward but I had a 43" curved previously and so it took some adjustment, now it seems normal, HDR gaming is lovely on it and my first screen with VRR, this is a game changer, games feel so good (though of course a 5080 and a zen5 x3d could be contributory to that but my last system wasn't rubbish)

I do CAD work on it most days and it has not been a problem at all, loads of text based context tabs etc and all text is fine, tuning and getting good colour was time consuming, game optimiser mode seem to help with that, I guess it must bypass some processing.

I have had my 42 C5 for a couple weeks now and it is amazing, coming from a 27" 1080p monitor the text is perfect no issues there at all.

Well I'm on day 2 of using the LG C5 and it's ******* awesome. I also had a bit of a scare with text initially but after changing some settings I am happy with how crisp it is. Now waiting for my delayed 5090 to arrive, hopefully in time for some Battlefield 6 action this weekend :D

How are you getting on with this TV? How's the game play in BF6? I was thinking of getting the same. what distance are you away from the TV?

Games look great, way better than my old 34" IPS, the brightness and colour contrast is next level. My main concern was text but this is 90% as good as a standard monitor so I'm happy. I sit less than 1m away, probably too close but I can see the whole screen easily without to much head movement. All in all well happy would highly recommend.

Funny enough that's what I have. A 34" IPS. LG. I've had it for a few years now.
This was in a sale on the black Friday. But I was on the fence because of the size, and only being 144hz. I'll wait for another sale. I would be about 1m away. is there any settings you changed? what did you do to Improve the text? also did you cap the fps for games ?
Cheers.

Sounds weird but as soon as I enabled HDR the text sharpness was improved. The only time I change the settings is when switching between desktop work and playing a game. When gaming I crank up the brightness to max, looks REALLY good.

Main downside is manging screen burn, swapped to Firefox as you can access all tabs in full screen, things like that. It's worth it though imo.

Brightness is black level.

If you turn brightness to maximum, blacks will appear gray. You mean OLED light level, and/or contrast.

Those settings at 100% would burn your eyeballs
