Nice pongs and gorgeous whiffs. The Aftershave thread!

Always get recommendations on Guerlain being a powerhouse. Bit the bullet and ordered 2ml samples.

Guerlain – Oud Essentiel
Guerlain – Spiritueuse Double Vanille
Guerlain – Santal Royal
Guerlain – Tobacco Honey
Guerlain – Habit Rouge Parfum
Guerlain – L’Homme Idéal L’Intense

I also picked up Montale Arabians Tonka. 'Widely regarded as a “beast mode” perfume' with a grave warning 'no more than 2 sprays. It's suppose to be 12+ hour projection, but find that hard to believe.

Hmm got reminded I have a john lewis token so that got me thinking of aftershave.
I seem to have two style styles:
1. woody citrus/rad floral - for causal:
* mont blanc legend spirit (white bottle).

2. amber/woody - for evening
* eros najim - woody/amber/oud but about as strong as I’d go in the oud. Great for going out but not a caaual scent.
* mont blanc legend (black bottle), fresh, woody, for suit and subtly.

I have some that’ve come to the conclusion don’t quite work for me:
* gucci guilty black - just a little too floral, too close to the wife’s
* montblanc explorer - a little too bergamot, works for evening at a push.
* vasachi (ics) - sort of a tobacco/vanilla that is ok but seems to small quite sickly.

I found I have a small sample spray of Savage but that's probably less refined - will have to try it.

I tend to avoid vanilla/sweet/sickly and floral. So looking at ideas 100-150 that wouls/could fit in those woody-citrus or amber-woody vibes.

One of my personal favourites on the woody-citrus side is Gentlemen Only by Givenchy, though the original Absolute version was better (though a warmer less woody scent) but sadly no longer available AFAIK. (You really need to be able to try stuff like this though before buying).

I agree, I’ll definitely try before buying. Some of the biggest hyped I can’t stand the smell.

I did think tom ford although the orchid is too floral and the veleteer was not good either. I have smelt the oud and not my thing but I got a sense it was in the right direction in not being a teen smell.

I'll make a short list online and then have a smell-before-buying. I've found in the past that fragrances that work and smell fine on the paper tabs can go side ways due to my skin chemistry. Also anything with lemon citrus (ie lemonelle or cithronelle) I find smell of anti-mosquito citronella candles (not pleasant - like the yellow Eros Energy!).

I'll have a look at:
* Tom Ford Noir / Extreme
* Tom Ford Bois Pacifique EdP
* Tom Ford Costa Azzura EdP
* Gio Fougere 2024 (blue bottle)
* I'll also have a look at the Givenchy Gentlemen only

Nearly spent £75 on a Versace one on Amazon but last second decided to go to Boots and test again - turned out it was completely different to what I was going to buy. I would have been gutted when I received it.

Just did my tax return and it turns out I'm due a £3k rebate! Think I might treat myself to a Baccarat Rouge.... :)

Ive sampled a lot of Parfum di marly of late and I have to say I am very impressed. I heard a few people say it lost something the last few years, not the same brand it used to be, can anyone shed some light?

I've got a sample set from them which i dip into every so often. I'm still undecided on the brand as a whole but I think when it comes to the pricier stuff I'm comparing it to the Fragrance Du Bois stuff that i own.

I hear that, I rememebr there being some complaints about them. Lesser quality now or something for the price range but honestly cant remember

Unfortunately I don't know which from which but some of the guys at work wear some of those Tom Fords on nights out and personally I found them hit and miss - some were decent but some I really didn't rate at all though they did, one in particular had quite a stale after note.

These are the fragrances in my current rotation. I’m trying to find a good light summer scent, but most citrus or low-sillage options vanish on my skin in less than an hour (really bad skin chemistry). Would love some suggestions that actually stick around. Torino 21 lasts no time on me.

I blind bought Goldfield & Banks Ingenious Ginger and loved it. I was going to grab a backup bottle before they reformulate, but I took a chance on Sospiro Vibrato instead, since it’s supposed to be very similar.

They are indeed very similar, mainly in the opening. Ingenious Ginger is much sweeter, drying down to sandwood vanilla. Vibrato feels less playful with ambroxan and a slightly woody base.

If you haven't already bought it, seriously consider Sweven by Oakcha, I actually prefer it to the real Baccarat rouge 540, and it lasts all day too! I've tried quite a few dupes, and obviously the real deal and Oakcha is definitely my favourite, I've got a bottle of it winging it's way to me as we speak, along with a bottle of Heavens speak (Kilian Angel share dupe). Before you splash out though, you should try out the sample pack (the red one) from Oakcha to test them all before you buy. Also, have a look at the YouTube video reviews :)
