DRAM Prices Surge 172% YoY with No Signs of Slowing Down

I doubt it will drop much, I think what is more likely to happen is that these will be sold in bundles instead.
You want ram? Well you have to buy a CPU and mobo as well

You want lube before you get RAMmed up the rear? Well you have to pay for lube as well
Never miss a chance to screw the average person lol

This obviously isn't a good thing but truth be told if the whole industry, consumer PC market, consoles etc was paused for 3-5 years I wouldn't complain too much as long as it returns back to normal after (if AI hasn't taken over by then), wouldn't be too bad for game developers squeezing more out of current hardware, and PS5 feels likie it was only released yesterday!! if PS6 was held back a few more years I honestly wouldn't complain.

Little bit worried about the Steam Machine though, Valve said they wasn't going to subsidise it but considering the current state of the PC market I think if they bit the bullet and did subsidise it, it could be the default recommendation for first time PC buyers.

I think even with a three year break I wouldn't get through my entire backlog. There's just too many games. I like the idea though. At least Valve (Nintendo, Sony) can subsidise if they needed too, although I assume their production lines/orders are already ready for Steam Machine.

EDIT: Not sure why I started mentioning GTA6. Long day.

Id love to know if people are still buying it at these prices.
I have mentioned this before, I don't want to but unfortunately I need another 2x32GB similar to what I currently have and that is almost a £1000. Makes me feel sick thinking about it but no choice, I would have waited if I did not need it.

I'll give you £50-£60

**** that. I would just keep my machine forever than pay that.

I solved the RAM price scalping, by treating myself to a 144Hz 31.5" 4K monitor instead - it's the best PC component that I've bought in years. The pixel density is incredible.
The next treat shall be a 5070Ti or 5080.

At least this way, I'm actually getting something worthy of the price!

Treat yourself to a 5090 instead. You know you want to :p

I could, but fire :P
People claim that it doesn't affect a 5080, whether that's once it's undervolted or stock, I forget. But I'd undervolt it.
A 5070Ti is a very safe proven choice. But I am leaning towards the 5080 :D

This is not gonna help with the current RAM shortages.
Chinese ssd manufacturers like Fanxiang, KingSpec, Lexar etc. might be affected by this.

This video as a whole is interesting, regarding the Sapphire GPU company, however these two parts noted here are relevant to this memory situation....

(Edward Crisler from Radeon-exclusive AIB Sapphire being interviewed)

and here where it is mentioned that there are two pricing structures, according to what is noted, the almost static one between manufacturers and retailers, and then the more volatile, between the retailers and the end customers....

.....noting how AMD's small increase in pricing due to this current situation is very different to what we are seeing in the retail stores for memory, reasons noted, supply and demand.

You don't say.. funny when I said this will be the case two weeks ago I was told I was wrong

In the last few builds, I have always opted for 64gb of RAM. Because it was so cheap.
That I could get x2 the amount I paid for the RAM by selling 1/2 of it, in each rig, is tempting.
Very tempting.
5 rigs at 300 each...
That's almost a GPU.
That still will run the modern AAA games less than 60 fps native.
What a time to be alive

A few 64G kits on OcUK at £500-600 including some high-end G.Skill ones. :)
thanks for the suggestions, indeed this is what I am going to do is to sell my current ram and buy 2 sets of 2x32gb cheaper ram. I don't want to drop more £1000 for ram 128gb of ram in total even that is ridiculous sum since originally had budgeted £500 for that oh well everyone let this be a lesson to everyone not to putt off upgrades :D

Internal analysis from SK Hynix warned DRAM productions will not meet supply and demand through by end of 2028. :(

I suspect cpu prices will drop since no one wants to build a new system with ram being so expensive so CPUs could end up sitting on the shelves
On one hand, I hope it's true, since I could certainly update my 7950X as it appears because it was first gen off manufacturing, the IMC is a bit weak on this one so could do with an upgrade (and in turn move it into a file server). But on the other hand, I wanted to upgrade it to the chip after this current gen for better IMC and compatibility - will just have to see how things go.
