He had a firearm licence and six guns according to my mate. a lot of questions to be answered as to why he had a licence and so many firearms. Aus is strict on gun ownership.

What a tragic loss of life. My heart goes out to the families who have lost their loved ones, particularly at a time when we should be practising good will towards all.

Fair play to the guy who interverned. I hope he pulls through. Hopefully the fact he is Muslim will go some way to demonstrate like all faiths, there’s good and bad in life.

With over 4 million legal guns in Australia and nearly 1 million firearm license holders. It's really not that strict. If you want to get a load of guns then you can.

Some people don’t understand peace and good will. I feel for the Jewish communities that must feel constantly under attack at the moment. I live near a few and they face abuse on a regular basis.

Australian here. As long as you don't have a criminal record, and can show that you have the facilities to store your weapons securely, firearm licences are not difficult to obtain. Firearms are regulated by state governments, so legislation tends to vary a bit.

There is no limit on the number of guns you can own (except in Western Australia, where the maximum is 10, or 5 for hunting licences). The average licenced owner typically has 4 or 5 firearms, and the total number of guns owned by private Australian citizens is estimated at ~4 million.

I'm saying that I think it's reprehensible for Netanyahu to publicly blame these killings on Australia recognising the need for a Palestinian state, which most countries agree is part of the path to a lasting peace. You know, to try and end the cycle of violence. Seems either dishonest or extremely naive to somehow believe that Israel laying waste to Gaza and killing 70,000 people (and continuing to annexe the West Bank) could not have had anything to do with motivating extremists to stage such an attack.
