Spec me a New NAS

so the plex application is installed on the NAS and I am able to click on the URL and it takes me there but I can't seem to add the media

is the media added via the NAS or the plex URL?
Via Plex, navigate to library and then add media

so I now have plex media server running but even though I gave the internal user for Plex folder permissions I still dont see my media.

alrite thanks so claim token was the one, it's now scanning for media

Will the player actually be stable, I mean this is 4K content and the DS416J is quite an old NAS although I'm wired network wise
suppose I will let it run and see what happens but not very optimisitc

Install Plex Dash on your mobile and you can keep an eye on the CPU and Memory usage, also if it's direct streaming or transcoding.

Yes just got it installed on my mobile but i gotta login now smh gonna find those details

Lets see how stable this is

I will add the rest of my video collection too but it seems plex is gonna actually take a long time going through all of the videos etc

Funny years and years ago i used to actually offer technical support on plex
Absolutely no idea what the end use was at the time lol

If it's set up as a server, the install usually guides you through adding media. You would add Films, then point at a path where films are saved as an example.

Yes thanks for that mate
It was very handy

Do u rate plex better than emby?

Do u reckon the plex app would work on a samsung tv?
I think Plex is the most polished, and I’ve been using it for probably 15 years so I’m not going to be changing. I also have a lifetime pass.

It definitely works on Samsung, use it all the time on my S95B. Only other app I tried was Jellyfin and I massively prefer Plex, also have the lifetime Pass.

I use Emby and wish I'd bought Plex instead :D

Whilst I disagree with the commercial direction Plex went (tying in with other services like Tidal etc rather than focusing on "your media"), Emby's developers are verging on incompetent, with releases taking Years to add relatively minor features (seriously there are forum threads with feature requests from 10 years ago!), and a lot of recurrent bugs that would be caught with proper testing.

Both Plex and Emby have apps for Samsung TVs as far as I know.

yes its all setup now plex that is

the 4k streaming isn't very good wireless - I haven't tried my wired devices yet

I suspect some fine tuning on the plex app would help the streaming for example instead of playing 4k I could play say 1080i
Either way I suspect the aging NAS is the bottleneck what do u all think?

so you can 'optimise' videos I mean that sounds good but surely going to take up even more storage plus the trouble is it'll take a lotta time on some of the larger videos.

I have a Synology which I have installed a 10Gb 2 port NIC. I direct attach a PC which is a docker host to it and then use that with Plex... I know Synology aint great but they work for me :)
