Assetto Corsa Rally

Yeah it's impressive, that said iRacing used to have a similar level of detail in car movement/suspension but at some point a few years back they simplified it for some kind of performance reasons.

Yeah, I think ACR is almost guaranteed to win individual car physics as rally is about solitary cars by definition. Modelling 20 cars + net code costs CPU. But still, kudos to them for pulling it off. Genre leading tyre flex as well probably

Managed to grab a world record now the leaderboards got reset (probably be beaten by the time i wake up tomorrow), not sure what the Obersteigen Xsara WR was before, think it was maybe a 2:12 last time I checked. Far from a perfect lap, Probably a couple more seconds i could find with enough grinding/patience/setup tweaking.

edit: improved it a fair bit

I've been messing around on the ice track and i know ice is slippery but with studded tyres it feels a little too gripless even for ice, im not finding it particularly satisfying to drive on regardless of car.

Still loving the tarmac though and bagged another couple of Xsara WR's and improved on my previous one (updated in post above)

£12.80 on Shopto with code:PLAYTIME

Ridiculously good value for something which will most likely become the standard for rally games going forward.

I found this thread to ask if there were any deals. Is that site legit? Never heard of it.

I’ve just (literally today) built my new 9800x3d and 5070ti machine. I’m a total sim racing noob (actually only played Dirt Rally 2 so far but love it!), but I feel like I need to out my new system through its paces with some newer games. Fancy this and ACE, Steam are bundling both for £40 so I don’t know if that’s a better deal currently  I’d like a road racer too and Evo will eventually take over right…

Site fine, been around for about twenty years. I usually buy PlayStation credit from them when they run offers.

Is this game playable on controller and is there some sort of career mode? I do love my rally games from the old days
I'm no sim expert yet, but from what I read before purchasing my wheel is that driving in 'proper' sim games is rather hard with a controller. I did it briefly on Dirt Rally 2 and that was hard. Although fun enough that I took the plunge on buying my wheel.

Which brings me to my question... As a total noob with a Thrustmaster T248 what do I need to do to get ACR working? I just read there's no soft lock implemented yet which can cause issues. What's a quick start guide, please? :)

In your Thrustmaster software, set the wheel to have 900 degrees of rotation.

Then map everything in AC rally and each car will automatically assign you the correct degrees of rotation that is used in real life, so the in game wheel matches your real life wheel. There is no soft lock limit yet but it's unlikely you're ever going to reach max lock in any of the cars anyway, i certainly haven't.

I thought this year’s Winter Sales would be the first time I hadn’t bought a game from GOG, Steam, and the like. Then I saw the price posted by @hyperseven, and it was a no-brainer - thanks H7. My G27 wheel doesn’t work with Windows 11, and the G29 I picked up a few weeks back had the same issue - likely software-related - so I returned the G29 and have been pad racing for now.

I wasn’t a fan of the original Assetto Corsa for reasons @Rroff mentioned in post 51, so I was hesitant. But I have to admit, this one’s a keeper. It works okay with an X-Box controller - but agree that it would be great to refine the settings. Will caveat that I’m currently racing the original 60's Mini Cooper S to get a feel for the stage before moving on to something with more horsepower. Driving some bends in a higher gear than intended is helping tame the car as I learn. So I wont be winning any stages or competing, but enjoying the sim - Really impressed.

G29 is what I use and it works perfect with win11. In fact, it has much better compatibility than most newer DD wheels that require xml and lua editing just to be recognized in some games :p The only potential pitfall I can see is that you did not install the driver software, or installed the wrong version of it. I've got Logitech Gaming Software 9.02.65 installed atm, it needs to run in background.

One reason I keep clinging on to my crusty g29 is just how easy it is to run lol: one USB plug, 20 seconds of fumbling with the desk and I've got a 900deg wheel with a manual H-shifter, loads of buttons and a decent set of pedals with clutch. No need for cockpits and alu profile rigs. Capability wise, I'm well short off maxing out its potential speed wise - certain Greger Huttu of iRacing used Logitech DFGT for Pete's sake :)

Thanks everyone, much appreciated. :)

I was planning to do a full W11 reset because I thought I’d messed something up, but now I’m hopeful it was just the wrong software.

I’ll dig out the G27 this weekend and give it another try on W11. It would be great if it works since my setup is similar to @Borsch - set up the Logi when needed and pack it away when done.

Should work, 5.10 is the correct version. Install that, set up there and that will install the right driver. Delete any previous installs you may have tried before running the Logitech software.

Software can be found with a quick search.
