Avatar 3 - Fire and Ash (2025)

A per the post above - really wish Cameron would drop cartoon this nonsense and go back to making proper films. He was one of my favourite directors once but - good god please make it stop !!

Money talks. The franchise are huge earners with broad appeal for the studios.

2 felt long imo could have trimmed some parts of it out especially some of the scenes that felt more like a tech demo / show off at what we can do now than adding to the story.

Last film I watched close to this runtime at cinema was Mission Impossible dead reckoning part 2 and that didn't feel like it was dragging until the last 20 min.

Can see it putting some people off going to the cinema to watch it when they are used to 90 min runtimes.
Maybe,

But looking at the biggest grossing films of all time 3 are from James Cameron and are "long"! In fact I think all 4 of these have had re-releases as well, people keep coming back for more long films!

1) Avatar: 2h42m
2) Endgame: 3h1m
3) Avatar 2: 3h12m
4) Titanic: 3h14m

Not seen the 1st two, I don't plan on doing so. number 3 = nope.

I was interested in JC films from '84' to '94' but not since.

I resisted seeing Titanic for some time, but it's actually a decent movie.

The Avatar movies are nice spectacles but other than Jake and Neytiri I can't remember any other Navi names.

8/10

I think I prefer the 2nd one, but this was still very enjoyable. Just like the second, it feels like a family film and is light on the scifi elements. The kid actors are great, and the young Sigourney Weaver steals the show!

Saw it in IMAX 3D, the High Frame Rate stuff was a bit annoying in the beginning, but you get used to it after a while. There is a lot less storyline stuff left to tie up and explore, but I think we'll still get a 4th film, assuming this makes over 1 billion.

No Avengers trailer in my showing :(

Heard this is good, I've booked Imax for new year.
But I do think the run time is too long.

I watched the LOTR extendeds recently, but I watch them in 2 or 3 sittings as they are so long.

But looking forward to it.

Animated films/fantasy films are my favourite so it has to be bad for me not to enjoy it.

As always, I ignore critic reviews for films like these and look at fan reviews. I'm a fan, not a critic.

Everyone is different. Saying they are proper films is like saying a genre of music is just bad if you don't like it.

Animated films are. 6/10 films I watch.
Expand it to fantasy, and it's probably 9/10 films.

I watched a bit of the second film last night.

Gosh, it is beautiful. Overall, I’d say it was pretty good and accomplishes everything it sets out to do. The main downside is length, as it’s just not possible to sustain the wonder and engagement for that long in a film like this.

It also gives a surprising amount of feels with the whaling scene, which despite being fake is a pretty uncomfortable watch.

I’d give it a 7/10 for the runtime issue and tbh that feels a bit harsh.

i havent had a chance to watch it yet. Had a bit of a emergency and ended up in hospital the last few days. Will defo check it out after a few more days recovery. Cant wait.

Everyone wanted to go until they knew the runtime. Needs an intermission or going miss a few mi utes of film each so will just watch at home

Watched this yesterday. As a fan of the first two films i enjoyed it but it feels like a retread of the previous film in some ways.

It's absolutely spectacular in its visuals. You totally forget it's mostly CGI.

It could really do with an intermission as it's far too long.

Hopefully a 3D Blu-ray will be released and I can watch the last hour without feeling my bladder is bursting!

Sorry to hear that @Kyo I hope you are on the mend.

I have been putting this off so far as the cinemas are simply heaving around here. I'm off between Christmas and New Year so I'll try to see it then.

I'm expecting pretty much the same as the second one, as has been said, but I will see it in 3D IMAX for the visuals so I expect to enjoy it.

Happy Christmas Eve everyone!

Appreciate it mate. Hope you and the family have a Merry Christmas too!!

Watch this last night in 2D (hard to find a 2D showing!) due to my bad eye sight I cant see 3D.

Good film but unnecessary too long. Wont be watching the next ones in the cinema unless the runtime is shorter. No reason for it to be over 3 hours.
