The Indoor Riding/ Zwift/ TrainerRoad etc. Thread

I've signed up to the £50 Join offer.......been enjoying it for a week or so. eFTP seems accurate, and the training adapts well to days I can't train (so a bit over xmas) and days where I do more than I planned.
Looking forward to the desktop version too, as not used to everything just on an app. Happy with the ability to export to Zwift, but there are some things that need a bit of getting used to or looking up, such as the Join 'level'. Still getting my head around that one.

My 2026 goal had been to hit category A and the 650 racing score group. However, I killed myself in the off the map race yesterday and now officially cat A. My club has invited me to do racing league in the junior A team, but unfortunately Tuesday is brownies and no chance of me joining races at 7 right now.

Xert has been good so far. UI clunky but compared to TR my training stress is significantly greater and have had more ftp increase than TR. I still don’t train enough for Xert though as it was 7-9 hrs a week.

I used Xert a few years back and found the same - despite training around 8hrs per week, it was never enough and it always told me I needed to do more.

I went for the £50 deal with Join in the end. I've been enjoying TR for the last 3 months but I don't think it's worth 3 x the price of Join.

I don't race and only do this for 'fun' plus TR seems to want to keep pushing you until you break which is not sustainable long term for me. I train early in the morning and I had been feeling constantly tired with the TR plan.

Of all the platforms I've tried, Join and Trainer Day have been the two that fitted closest with my preferred style of training.

Join gave me a nice mix of sweet spot and micro sprints this morning which was enough intensity without trying to break me.

Anyone testing Training Peaks Virtual this week? It's free all week.

I haven't tried any events yet but the workout section works well.

The one frustration I have is knowing how many 'real' people are actually on there. There are riders with all kinds of names from every country you can think of but I'm 99% certain they aren't real and are just bots. It would be nice to be able to switch them off but then it might be a bit of a ghosttown?

Never been tempted away from Zwift sad to say.

Speaking of which.....is there a reason they split the 650+ category into a separate event? I fancied a race this evening, so doing one of the TdZ ones. There's over 250 in the normal race, and only 11 in the 650+ one :( Yesterday there were over 1000 in one race, while only 40 odd in the 650+.

Are any of you going for the ultimate 18 stage challenge? I'm tempted now you can free ride them whenever you want
Will see how it goes, although I'll almost certainly be cheating with the longer routes, by late joining just before 30mins... Combination of stamina and limited saddle time pain threshold on the turbo!

Did the first official race yesterday in lower pen D (160-270), had to push on towards top of first significant climb to make sure I kept with lead group, but stood no chance up the second significant one ~3Km from the finish. Huge field, ~360 signups for D and ~316 took part and crossed the finish line, I came in 25th in approx 40mins30secs and very tired today.

Loads of sleeper accounts coming out of the woodwork to screw up these official races for lower pens, helping more legit pen Ds get a faster draft/time, even though some sleepers blew way through the ZRS 5min seed score limits on the second climb plus sprint finish. No idea just how many of the approx 27-39min posted times in D will actually be able to join D for next week's route!

@AndyCr15 - yup! If you select the Tour ‘card’ on the main screen you can free ride that weeks routes and get the week ticked off. I did the short one during a workout last night. Don’t think I’d be able to do the other 2 in a hour so I’ll do the longer one on the weekend and try and get the other one done if I manage to WFH tomorrow

I keep threatening to join a race. Enjoyed them when I tried a few a year or so ago but I feel so unfit and slow that it would just be no fun lol. Though my fitness is improving it’s still not where I was earlier this year. I was 2.9 knocking on 3 (I know they’re still low numbers!) but at the moment I’m 2.6 on a good day… and the days aren’t good either aha.

ZRS doesn't often correlate well with 5mins seed score ability that once you are doing regular races, but it sounds like you could be 250-300ish, somewhere near the C/D border for a lot of races. Zwift monthly races run two ranges, at very close to my 85% seed score floor (227) I find the 160-270 pen reasonable for all but 5mins+ climbs, while the 210-350(?) pen doesn't need much uphill at all for me to fall back through the field being ~93Kg. In Saturday sub 15min Tiny Race quartets, I've recently moved up to pen D (230-350ish) and on decent days I can keep with the leading groups up ~2min climbs, because the races aren't long I get to recover a bit from full gas efforts.

2.9/3W/Kg is way more than I can manage for anything close to 20mins these days, you just need to find some series that suit you!

Not all races/TTs use ZRS, some use the old Category Enforcement, 2.9W zFTP would put you mid pen C.

They pushed me into 270-390 for the first stage today. I've only done races before in the 160-270. I've no chance to compete in the higher category. I was like 85th and 8 minutes behind the leader in this category, kinda sucks the fun out of it no chance I can compete with that.

Is this a Tour De Zwift official race that start at 10mins past the hour, rather than the group rides (choice of three routes) that start on the hour and allow late join?

If it was an official race, what time? I can see 85+ finishers for 1010, 1210 and 1410 today with that ZRS band (270-390)?

Has anyone else, or you, jumped on Zwift for 5mins+ of riding while using a different declared weight? Depending on their 5mins effort and weight, you could set a higher seed score and exclude you from pen D 160-270.

14:10. No one else been on. I guess i dont understand how zwift races work because when I look now the at the 17:10, the categories are different and its recommending 210-330 which wasnt there at 14:10.

How does late join work? I assumed it wouldn't give me the route if I joined late. I kinda rushed into the race

The Zwift monthly races, including official Tour De Zwift races this month, alternate every hour between two ranges. In one pen E has a ZRS limit of 160, in the other it's 210. Which has a knock-on effect for other pen ranges.

For many group rides and group workouts, including the Tour De Zwift official group rides, you can join a ride up to 30mins after the pen departed. TDZ routes A/B/C (long, medium, small) start at 00, 01 and 02 past the hour. Random riders are picked to "teleport" late joiners into the ride. You get the route badge/bonus for crossing the finish line even if late joining.

Tim's site now shows everyone who crossed a race finish line, even if they are not registered on www.zwiftpower.com , so riders like you currently are shown as "privateplayer{XYZ}." So for your 1410 race today...

Bit annoying

Have you not even tried MyWhoosh I'm super glad I ditched Zwift for it. I honestly can't see any downsides.

Yeah, I saw that, but did climb of the week last night. I might have a go at it though. Is it 12.5k extra XP (not just that's how much you'll gain completing them?)
