Where only the founders cards have vRAMI wouldn't hold your breath..

Still rocking mine. I think you’re right.Well as an owner of an OG RTX 3080 10gb running @ 3440x1440 I can also confirm that all the fuss over the ram was definitely unwarranted, for £649 it's become the best value card I've ever owned.
i get how you feel i was just about to buy a 5070 during black friday. the asus was 420 now its 500. so gonna see how january sales go. thing is they making out there is this that shortages abosolute bs. they had a rebate on 5 series cards couple weeks ago then shut down fabrication. you wouldnt shut down fabrication if you were running low on gpus or do rebates. just trying it on. also doing this in the worst sales period of the year ? crazy. everyones not rushing out buying in january unless its a bargin. not a rip off price. How stupid am I for possibly going for a Zotac 5060Ti 16Gb that’s on offer here for £380?
Currently rocking a 1080 GTX, I’ll wait until you’ve stopped laughing….
I game at 1080/60Hz at the moment (again will wait for the laughter to stop, although am looking to up this soon to a 1440 unit with decent refresh rate), and keeping with my budget upgrade theme my general system will also get a minor update from a 7700k to say a 5800X (one more belly laugh for you all), to reuse my ddr4.
I was planning a ‘bigger’ upgrade of things but with prices on things going silly, and given my usage this seems like a relatively practical upgrade to tide me over a bit longer.
Better performance than
the most expensive part of that build

Yeah probably will wait, as I’m sure a lot of people are in kicking myself I didn’t just buy all the bits I was originally going to get a few more the agoi get how you feel i was just about to buy a 5070 during black friday. the asus was 420 now its 500. so gonna see how january sales go. thing is they making out there is this that shortages abosolute bs. they had a rebate on 5 series cards couple weeks ago then shut down fabrication. you wouldnt shut down fabrication if you were running low on gpus or do rebates. just trying it on. also doing this in the worst sales period of the year ? crazy. everyones not rushing out buying in january unless its a bargin. not a rip off price.
if you can id hold off for a few weeks see if they do some sales. the 5060ti isnt going up or a lot of the models arent they going down.
i test lots of games so i know basically what i need so im too bothered yet. but yeah once some of the new games come out its going to be a big leap up performance wise. as long as im sorted before then im fine. i aint feeding the nvidia greed trainYeah probably will wait, as I’m sure a lot of people are in kicking myself I didn’t just buy all the bits I was originally going to get a few more the ago

This is "probably" a fried one.....

I spied two sticks of Gskill memory in the first photo, hopefully they have survived, the most expensive part of that build.
There has been a few more connectors melting and burning even before this one, but they never mentioned them because they didn't look as bad but still died in the end and caused almost a fire.
These connectors need to go now. I won't be buying a card that has one in any form.
The cards could easily use 3 x 8 pins at 150 watts each and 75 watts from the PCI-e slot, That's a total of 525 watts safely spread out and delivered over 4 connections instead of 600, Which is just a silly number, Over the crappest wire man has ever invented.
Makes you wonder why some partner cards don't use regular connectors. Nvidia must have some say in whether they can or not or there would be a few by now.
The Gigabyte 5090 can take an additional 12V-2x6 connector towards the rear. A few have successfully modified their cards and checked they work. Not 50/50 split but seeing about 60/40 which still helps keep it cool. So technically not that difficult, so why didn't Nvidia allow partners to do it officially?
...that would be recognising the issue I suppose.
Have you tried undervolting? It is much more effective with the 5090 than powerlimiting was with the 4090. It is incredibly easy to set up in MSI Afterburner. Takes a few minutes.Ive resorted to lowering the max power level to 90%. Only doing so on the higher demanding games that hit 600w.
To be honest, I dont even notice the drop in performance with the 90% cap!
