NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

Take with a huge pinch of salt (both in terms of whether it's legit as I've never heard of the site or if it's a ploy to lessen the actual rise...) but...

Newsis: Nvidia and AMD to significantly increase GPU prices starting next month. Describes RTX 5090 increasing from $2000 to $5000

We knew already AMD we're going to raise prices but by something like 10% I seem to recall?

Someone did mention on Resetera that is a small regional South Korean new agency, known for being quite factual in its reporting, but obviously no sources given in the article.

What wasn't clear to me is whether this is linked to the recent news of Nvidia not supplying board partners with RAM, or whether that is merely a factor in this. I.e. memory is going in up in price one way or another.

Not messed with any undervolting.

Would be happy to give it a go, as long as it doesent make anything unstable. Can you recommend any good guide videos on YT?
Sorry for the slow response. Here is a good UV guide. It's 12mins long but actually very simple. This is the better way of doing it. There is another way which takes literally 2mins, but I suggest you do it properly the first time. I suggest starting conservative (e.g. 0.9v at 2750MHz) and working your way up in terms of clocks.

So I've decided it's a new year, I might as well tinker with mine.

Followed the guide, but wasn't really aware of default settings and didn't have OSD active in game, just the MSI Afterburner on my desktop screen and the game running on my OLED

So for example using MSI Afterburner I can see the GPU runs at around 800-810mv at idle with one screen enabled.

I played Borderlands 4 for 20 mins to test the new undervolt settings and saw it went to 895mv and core clock was around 2600-2700mhz or so and temperature didn't go above 63°C

Good result?

If they are massively in stock everywhere (and nearing End of life too with the supers due), surely they will just sit on shelves if prices go up

exactly..! they have the stock already why was fabs shut down its because they were overstocked lol and did rebates two weeks ago across nvidia range ! why would you shut down fabrication and do rebates if you didnt have stock or memory costs absolute bs lol. so all thats going to happen now is people believe all of this the retailers will push up the prices of cards they brought at normal prices . gouge them and amd will also do the same or amd cards will be put up just because nvidia cards prices have gone up so they can gouge them too.

i suspect this is mostly the game in this sector now. Create rumours and stories about shortages and demand and price rises. Then it is just a self fulfilling prophecy as everyone starts to panic buy and FOMO.

Don't like where the PC hardware industry is heading to be honest. All seems like a mass rip off now.

people dont even realize the knock on effect this will have on new games supposed to be coming out next year too ! a lot of titles will probably get pushed back a year now. xbox and playstations put back 1-2 years now. older consoles wont be able to play the new titles coming so with stupid pc component prices and no new consoles how can you play the new higher requirement games ? you cant. so delays for sure.

I'm not one to usually say something like this, I think, but it does all seem a manufactured regarding the price increases, or at least how extreme the increases are. Some tech reviewers been advising to buy sooner than later. Maybe they'll be right but I would laugh if nvidia release the Super series in January.
I seem to remember Gibbo forewarning about memory price increases a year or so ago. I assume NV, AMD and all industry insiders would have known too so I'd be a bit surprised if the the Super series is binned due to expected memory price increases.

Tricky to say, it's all relative to stock performance, power consumption and temps, etc. I don't look at the specific mv value in the MSI AB overlay, I just select the UV profile and monitor performance. Regarding clock speed, it is worth noting that when you set a clockspeed value as part of the UV curve, the GPU will never reach that value. It usually settles for 100-150Mhz less for some reason. I.e., a 0.9 @ 2800Mhz UV profile will max out at 2650Mhz in a 3D mark benchmark.

When you next have an hour free, I suggest to pick several benchmarks (3D Mark is easy for this, e.g. nomad and speedway) and games, and note down the performance, power consumption and temps for stock performance versus various undervolt profiles.

This way you can map out where the optimal UV profile is. For example, I use a 0.865mv @ 2400 profile for old games that use c.50-60% GPU usage as I lose no performance and save power. For most other games I use a still conservative 0.9mv @ 2750 profile as it is stock performance but very rarely goes over 425w.

this was funny buy now and memory dropped the lowest its ever been :p

Thanks for advice, did some quick 3D Mark benchmarks on speedway.

Undervolted + 1600mhz memory clockspeed bump - 13931 on Speedway with Average Core Clock of 2480Mhz and 69°C average GPU temp

Stock Settings - 13780 on Speedway with Average Core Clock of 2561Mhz and 69°C average GPU temp

You would think an undervolt would be significantly cooler, right?

Did you check the fan speed? Its likely much lower for the same temp.
