Oh didn't know that. I need to finish 2 remake I think I was close to the end maybe. Had to fight something and use a crane to knock it down I think.

Some parts of RE2 and 3 overlap, you don't gain full access to what was in RE2 with 3 but I believe some of the early street areas and a small part of the police station do.

It's all happening within the same time frame in the same city, RE3 is a treat after 2 imo. I get why people love the second game, but 3 genuinely changed things up and had a sense of urgency I never felt with 1 or 2. Nemesis was bloody terrifying too, utterly relentless and unstoppable, and the way you finally kill him is so unfathomably ridiculous it's impossible to not love it. The multiple-choice parts adds to the replayability a fair chunk too compared to the first two, there's a few instances where you need to make a choice to do X or Y and it can have a decent (if not incredibly major) effect on the game.

3 remake was shockingly disappointing given how good the og PS1 game was, I don't care if I'm beating a dead horse I'm still mad. :p

Man, do you ever complete any games?

I am already at least halfway through RE3 and only started yesterday. Yes, it is not a big game, but still :D

100%. What they had to do was take what was there and turn it to 11. Instead they dumbed it down and made it linear and killed all replayability.

Just imagine in different playthroughs Nemisis popping in different places and different choices further leading to different outcomes.

They pretty much from what I could tell even reused the big guy from RE2R's AI that follows you around the police station.

Nemesis has always been in my mind the most badass and interesting of the RE antagonists/bosses in terms of tyrants because it was super adaptable and actually smart. I remember (vaguely, so may be off) there being some lore from extended material that the line/research was discontinued because they were long term too dangerous.

RE3R as a semi-open world with an adapting Nemesis (remember the Mordor games where enemies could evolve?) in Racoon City would have been bloody incredible. Instead they ****** out an asset flip with awful boss fights and supreme disappointment.

As much as I love the new graphics, i honestly think these games lose a lot vs pre-rendered backgrounds.

Something seems to happen where your mind fills in the lack of detail. It just has a lot more atmosphere. RE2 and 3 remakes jist did not capture it imo. Especially RE3 remake.

I am really enjoying playing RE3 at the moment with the mod.

What would be cool would be if in the future with the aid if AI it would be cheap and easy for them to release these OG games intact, but with proper updated pre-rendered backgrounds and also new 3D characters so they don't look so blocky.

The push for full 3D was way too early in the console market, there's a reason pre-rendered background games or 2D games of the PS1 era aged far better than anything going all in.

Both respond extremely well to upscaling and modernisation too, whereas anything fully 3D would borderline require a full remake to not look like plap.

Look at the likes of Suikoden or Star Ocean 2, mixed 2d/pre-rendered and they were super easy to make beautiful updates for and even prior looked great with emulation related upscaling. The entire Final Fantasy series is popular enough to enjoy a healthy mod community that's been working on upscaling pre-rendered backgrounds for years, long before the AI boom and they can look fantastic. There's a timeless quality to it, consoles were not ready for the 3D boom back in the 32bit era without tricks, but marketing did a number as always.

Here are some images from Resident Evil 3 with the RE:Enhance mod I took today while playing :)

*snip*

The upscaling of the backgrounds are too clean and unnatural looking for my liking. I like how rough around the edges the originals look upscaled :). New year playthroughs of Resident Evil 1 - 3 are on the cards for January now :).

Yeah, I appreciate that. But it makes a change. I will probably replay these another 10 times before i die (assuming dying from old age), so plenty of time to play it in different ways :)

Understandable. Too busy alpha teating :p

Usually it's just because I have very short attention spent so unless something really grabs me then I'm unlikely to finish it.
That wasn't the case with re2 though. That was probably just me flicking through games and then before I know it I forgot I even own it.

Finished HL2 though the other day, only took me however many years since it was released lol.

Probably my favourite gaming franchise when I think about it. RE7 was peak for me.

Never heard anyone say RE7 was their favourite. So that's new :p

Certainly much better than RE6, but does not come close to the fun I just had playing RE3 over the past couple of days.

I enjoyed it so much, i could go play it again. RE7 on the other hand, there is no urge to play it again sadly. I would not mind playing RE8 again some day.

I think I fancy playing RE3 Remake more than RE8 so, i may have to switch there positions on the list :p

I've played through 7 4 times, it just nails it for me. 8 was ok but not a patch on 7 imo. I'm gearing up for another play through in VR soon :P

You are probably a younger lad that was in diapers when we were playing the OG ones back in the day :p

Here are some more screenshots from RE3. Completed it and had a blast. Definitely better than the remake and better than RE7 imo :D

Yes, I did a lot of saves. Had to, as Nemesis got me quite a few times and I hate spending ages replaying when I have a bunch of other games to play, Didn't mind as much in the past as I love the game anyway, but these days gaming time is more of a luxury. I have completed these games with 1 or 2 saves in the past :D

I don't recall the guy Carlos is chatting to from previous playthoughs. I was like who is this? Felt like a new game for a moment :)

In the last image I picked a new costume (the OG STARS Jill costume) for a new game to see how it looks like. The overall model looked better I thought.

Now going to move on to playing Tormented Souls 2 and then return to play the OG Resident Evil. Was going to do RE2 first and work backwards from RE3, but I am just going with what I fancy playing first rather than in any order.
