** The Official Resident Evil Games Thread **

Never heard anyone say RE7 was their favourite. So that's new :p

Certainly much better than RE6, but does not come close to the fun I just had playing RE3 over the past couple of days.

To be fair, it is a good game it's just a weird take on Resident Evil. You could have easily changed one or two minor things, called it something else, and then have had an entire new survival horror franchise.

Same with The Village, although that was tonally very different too. I enjoyed it but Ethan got on my wick, thankfully Capcom seemed to realise that
by killing him, fine he was a "mold-man" for most of the two games, but it still came across as weird, thankfully he's gone for bloody good.

Sorta feels like they might be going with a core/proper Resident Evil game and then a sort of spin off cycle going forward, not counting remakes?

Edit: Honestly, I think the only time I'd openly mock someone for their favourite RE is if it was 6.

If it was 5 I'd probably feel mildly sorry for them. :p

Yep. Agree with that. Tbh that is how I feel about RE4 onwards. Should have just been a new franchise. I love 0 to 3 and Code Veronica. Those are what I myself call proper resident evil games. Out of those 0 was the worst, but i will still take that over the new stuff tbh.

Lets hope RE9 is more like a proper RE game. If I had to guess, I think it will probably be somewhere between RE8 and the originals. That would rate quite high on my list if so.

1- Resident Evil Remake
2- Resident Evil 2
3- Resident Evil: Code Veronica
4- Resident Evil 3
5- Resident Evil 2 Remake
6- Resident Evil 9
7- Resident Evil 0
8- Resident Evil 4 Remake
9- Resident Evil Village
10- Resident Evil 3 Remake
11- Resident Evil 4
12- Resident Evil 7
13- Resident Evil 5
14- Resident Evil: Revelations
15- Resident Evil: Revelations 2
16- Resident Evil 6

I predict based on what I have seen so far it will end up on the 6th slot for me.

I really enjoyed RE4R, recently finished it and today started playing RE2R and even in the remakes the tone and focus is entirely different. It's far, far more survival/horror orientated and tense, even the levels of gore are comparatively unreal, the first 10 minutes in RE2R absolutely annihilates the levels of violence you see in RE4R.

I'm desperately hoping RE9 is a proper return to form, as much as I enjoy some of the later games nothing has landed as hard as 1-3, CV, and one or two of the spin offs. They're massively different experiences by a country mile, it's like we've two franchises in one place and it's a bit odd.

1. Resident Evil: Code Veronica
2. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
3. Resident Evil Remake
4. Resident Evil 2
5. Resident Evil 2R
6. Resident Evil 4R -- This is a shocker for me because I did not get on with the original, Ashley was a royal PITA and I think at the time the tonal shift put me off.
7. Resident Evil 0
8. Resident Evil Village
9. Resident Evil 7
10. Resident Evil Dead Aim (this is a bit of a hidden gem imo, it's sloppy as hell at times but I enjoyed my time with it)

To note, I think that despite ranking order, all of the above are really good games, and after that it falls off a cliff for me.

11. Resident Evil 4
12. Resident Evil 5
13. Resident Evil 3R
14. Resident Evil Revelations 1
15. Resident Evil Revelations 2
16. Chronic IBS
17. Resident Evil 6

If 9 lands in my top 5 I'll be extremely happy.

Seems our top 3 are very similar. Even for me those top 3 are very close to each other. But RE Remake has to take first place due to the awesome mansion and it is just so well done. That's what you call a remake.

Close enough that depending on my mood the order might shift a little tbh.

I played RE1 on the PS1 not longer after it came out, but it was at a friends house as he was the first person I knew with a Playstation. I played 2 when spending a weekend at a cousins place, he rented the game out and I ended up being the one to play it because he'd done so prior but couldn't get past the train section and wanted to see what happened, the ginger sod didn't have a memory card either. I saved up money from paper rounds/selling cans of pop/cigs and all sorts of crap in school as an early-mid teen to grab a PS1, it was mostly for the Final Fantasy games around the launch of 8, but the first Resident Evil game I bought/owned entirely by myself was RE3 so there's probably a very strong nostalgia factor in fairness.

Good times for me, same with Silent Hill and as mentioned FF. That was peak gaming for me, N64/PS1 before shifting into PC gaming with the likes of Deus Ex and Thief.

FML I'm old.

Haha. Yeah, I am starting to slowly feel that way. I got my PS1 around 1997 as I recall. Was scared to go on my own to the game shop so took my mum along for security

I still remember getting a 3D Street Fighter game with it. The owner of the shop said you sure, it's not very good. I got it anyway as loved Street Fighter 2 games. Turned out the guy was right. Took it back eventually and added more money on top an got another game

I played RE1 briefly in 1996 on a family members PS1 and did get scared at the bit where the zombie is munching a stars member and turns around and looks at the camera. My first RE game i got on my PS1 was RE2 and i absolutely loved it. It actually was top of my list for many years.

FF7 was probably my favourite PS1 game, followed closely by RE2 and 3. I still remember the day i got it. Silent Hill games were good, but I dont even remember if i completed them. They just were not on the same level for me. I prefered Dino Crysis games to Silent Hill.

Loved the N64 also. Got that in 1998 I think. Great memories. As for PC, yeah, it was Deus Ex. That was around 2000/2001 I played that. Was blown away. Replayed that many times over the years also like RE games.

Unfortunately I'm the most shameful of generations, a millennial.

Yeah but on the internet boomer is basically anyone over 30. Like me

Oh, I wasn't taking the **** though. It's fun seeing other people's memories from a time where gaming was something I used to look forward to and enjoy a lot more.

I'll never forget the Christmas I got it, I opened up a copy of a formula 1 and I remember being suitably confused and then my mum said if you go upstairs you might find another present.
Usain bolt would not have touched me that day for how fast I ran up that stairs.

I got F1, and a pack of games that had Worms, Pandemonium, X.. something, and True Pinball. So I spent just as much time messing around on the demo discs and stuff. God the monthly PlayStation magazine was something I used to look so forward to. Don't get me started on the Christmas I got final fantasy 7 either.

But to remain vaguely on topic, my friend had Resident Evil and as soon as that first FMV clip played when the zombie turns around and looks at you, I was like nope.

Noted.

As I'm 41 would that make me a functional corpse?

Good god, I'm Bub the zombie but with vidya.

Everyone is wrong because this is the correct order... although highly caveated as per the commentary. I could probably swap a few places around depending on my mood.
  1. Resident Evil 4 - playing this at release on the GameCube was hands down the best gaming experience of the bunch and I mean that with heavy emphasis on 'game'. It was by far the most fun and with an ever changing set of scenarios / environments / gameplay mechanics that felt effortless. It was packed with laugh out loud moments and genuine frights. Anyone says this game didn't have scary moments is a big fat liar. The caveat / snag with this one is that the controls really make it hard to go back to after playing the remake. Is it really one that I would chose to play again right now.... hmm, not sure. Top moments for me.... and, come on, this is a sensational list
    • The 'right hand man' fight: this had a much better lead-up in the original.
    • The village boss.
    • The hedge maze.
    • The sewers (with bugs).
    • The initial village assault.
    • El Giganto.
    • The Garradors... (blind knife hand guys... the first encounter is frightening... then you get thrown in a cage with one... then two at once!)
    • The Regeneradors
    • The knights.
    • WHAT ARE YOU BUYING? WHAT ARE YOU SELLING?!
  2. Resident Evil 4R - This took away some of the charm and made the enemies more 'grabby'. Still, there were many fun moments. A great remix... and still a top class 'game'.
  3. Resident Evil Remake - Iconic and the best of the 'old formula' but it comes with a big 'but' that I'll apply to most of these games... the limited inventory is a nuisance. I'm really not sure how 'game breaking' it would be to play without it. I'd like to try it one day.
  4. Resident Evil 7 - By far the most frightening and the big kick up the bum that the series needed.
  5. Resident Evil Village - Again, great 'game' points here with the castle section being fantastic. Underrated.
  6. Resident Evil: Code Veronica - This went up in my books on my last playthrough... ridiculously camp / silly. Possibly a bit too long.
  7. Resident Evil 2R - Surpasses the original with modern gameplay. Slightly mired by Mr. X being a little too stressful, which takes away from the campy fun.
  8. Resident Evil 2 - Almost as iconic as the original! Reminiscent of a classic Zombie film like Dawn of the Dead. Possibly perfect at what it does but very, very short. I think I've done it in well under 2 hours.
  9. Resident Evil 3R - Brilliant initial section but goes downhill from there.
  10. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis - Just a bit redundant.
  11. Resident Evil - Good but a bit redundant after the remake.
  12. Resident Evil 5
  13. Resident Evil 0
  14. ... they drop off a cliff from this point
  15. Resident Evil Revelations 1
  16. Resident Evil 6
  17. Resident Evil Revelations 2

Decided to pickup RE 0 and HD to complete the steam collection, well bar Requiem but I'm still too tight to pay £40 for it, planning on going though the entire series next year

No list should have RE6 not in last place. It’s terrible.

Bloody hell. What a list Nitefly :p:cry:

You are definitely younger than Gray I recon :p

I just played RE3 and had a lot of fun. I prefer it to Resident Evil 4 too :p;)

Based on your list I think Resident Evil 9 will end up 3rd on your list :D

I mean… I do LIKE all of them up to the ‘drop off a cliff’ at which point they’re a bit disappointing.

I’m very hopeful for 9 - I’ve really enjoyed the modern games :)

… it better have DLSS though.
