What have you done to your car today?

Got another stone chip in the new windscreen less then 100 miles after I had it fitted. Completly empty slip road comming to a stop, it's location might mean another new one. So that could be two windscreens in a month of ownership.

Also noticed they didn't fit part of the trim correctly when they did the windscreen and have managed to damage the dash as well, in a place I have no idea how you would fix with out replacing the trim and taking the dash completely apart.

So my new ownership is going great so far :(

A bit boring but fitted some running boards to my Hyundai Santa Fe - had them on a Tuscon and it really changes the look of the car and helps my 9yo get into the back - brought them months ago and been sitting there as I knew it would be a bit of a job - thought it would take a couple of hours, took 3 1/2 (2 1/2 hours for 1 side, 1 hour for the other).

Both blew at the same time?!
Yup. I was surprised by that too.

When I pulled the units out the bulb holders weren't very secure inside the lamp. They weren't clicked into place at all, basically just resting inside. I suspect that means they weren't properly sealed as the gasket wasn't compressed, so they got wet and either froze or just popped. It has been a few months since I used that vehicle so could be either.

Made a radiator muff out of a car floor mat because trying to buy a proper one from pensioners in the owners club is like pulling teeth. :p

Finally got my private plate legally on the car after 3 days of trying.

Did the transfer. Website said to put it on.

Left it 2 hours and called my insurer. Car still on DVSA database as the old reg.

Called DVSA, they were adamant that it was on the new reg, sent me an email confirming it.

Spoke with insurance this morning, still won't register against the policy on the computer, reg invalid. Need permission from the underwriters directly. Broker called them, got the permission and stated that it'll be done midday.

2pm rolls around, still showing on policy as old reg so another call to insurer, who states it's definitely on the new reg. Fires me an email to have handy for plod just in case.

Then 10 mins later, another email with policy documents, all on the correct reg.

I was told it was meant to be easy to transfer a reg. Experience says otherwise.

Daughters Fiat Grande Punto has been sat for 48 hours in these sub zero conditions. I helped her get rid off all the snow and ice to go to college only to find the handbrake cable on the drivers side was seized on.

Ended with a spray bottle of warm water and a small hammer tapping the release mechanism back and forth to pull the cable. Managed to free it up and she made it to college but I have ordered a pair of new cables.

Never had that happen before with any of my cars. Must be an Italian thing.

Weird, nice work on getting it freed though.

This morning the mrs Yaris Cross would not start, luckily I have one of those ring boosters, took about 3 seconds once fitted to get it started. Took longer to unpack and undo the termino connection as hands were frozen.
Typically I slipped off the little step in front of the garage door and bent the bottom of my leg the wrong way, no lasting damage but it hurt.
Need to move new battery for that car up the to do list in 2026.

Cleared the ice off the convertible's windscreen and got in. This was the view:

Then I scraped the ice off the inside too and moved all the cars around so I can swap wheels the weekend.

Took the Navara in for an MOT, they didn't think it would pass with all the corrosion (surprise) but it did, barely, unfortunately not worth spending money on it at this point - as soon as I can find the right thing for sale it'll be moved on or relegated to a project vehicle. After picking it up found the fan was ramping up proportional to the revs - they weren't able to find the issue which to be fair there was no EML and/or codes to go by but a quick AI query suggests the vicious fan clutch is probably stuck in the wrong position which is highly likely and a little bit concerning the dealer was out of ideas and could only suggest booking it in for an extended diagnostic - granted from a cursory examination it didn't seem to be something the dealer had caused and more likely a mixture of age, usage patterns and weather and they'd want to bill for any more time spent on it :s

Toyota have been churning out some great engines of late

Not stricly mine but I've been appeasing my inner redneck working with one of our US Customers on the tuning for a turbo upgradefor the latest Toyota Tacoma up from 286whp/350ft-lbs to 430whp/480ft-lbs

Edit: Between all of the turbo/intake noise and the mild crackles on lift off from 6000rpm it sounds more Turbo hot hatch than truck

Diagnosed the next thing wrong with the Mrs's car.

It doesn't start.. charged it for two days and ... this morning it doesn't start plus the interior light is dim.. Hmm.. car blacks out on attempting to start. hmm... it turns out that the leaky battery has enough charge to start, but on the last start the current draw blew the corroded remains of the terminal to pieces leaving the top part of the clamp (visible) connecting to the terminal. So now it powers up ok but it doesn't have enough current capacity to turn the engine over.
So it seems I'll be fitting new terminals and a new battery next week. First time I've seen a battery damage a terminal like that.
