What have you done to your car today?

Oil change on my old Smart FourTwo. Second oil change I've ever done on any car, much easier than I expected and didn't crack the sump thank god. I put in a Stahlbus Oil Drain valve to never have to deal with that issue again. I'll try to tackle the spark plugs tomorrow.

Couldn’t help but think of the Range Rover opinion threads here. My friends 6 month old, top of the line Range Rover has completely packed in. Worse, they haven’t got a clue why, nothing on the diagnostics.

Not my car but had a brand new (already trashed) Ford Transit hire van today, could not get it to show a rev counter for some reason - it isn't there by default anyway but the "power bar" was missing, the dash was full of errors so possibly why and so many pop-up warnings just for mundane stuff as well, which was not helpful because the clutch was trashed and it would have been useful to be able to see the revs - fortunately didn't have to go far as I found the whole thing hateful and I can't stand driving a manual any more. ~3000 miles on it or something and already pretty messed up - crazy how poorly people treat stuff which isn't their own.

I really have to question whoever designs these things as well - the parking brake as a button by your right knee is just utterly stupid.

Hit a pothole and now have a squeaking type of noise coming from the front.
Probably bitched up the suspension or something similar, that's what I did to my car today !

Normally I try to go round potholes but I was in a line of moving traffic and did not see it until it was too late.
I had a quick look underneath but to my untrained eye and without ramps I think I am on a losing battle. FFS, another bill probably.

Update:
Lucky escape, pumped up all 4 tyres to recommended pressures and removed all rubbish from the car that could move around and the issue seems to have gone.
I took the car for a 6 mile test drive and it handles OK with no squeaks or rattles.

All 4 of the tyres were about 10psi below recommended and there was an empty coffee cup and bottles of water rolling around behind the drivers seat which may have become dislodged when I hit the pothole. I should have checked the tyre pressures a few months ago as part of a routine pre winter check so only myself to blame re the tyres.

Phoned up auto glass they said they would not fix a small 1-2mm chip in window on driver's side. Would be excessive cost doing it without insurance. Usually it has to have a spider crack line although mine hasn't.

Not sure what to do MOT is next Thursday and it's the driver view . Prob will pass but I don't want it getting worse.

I have one of these home repair kits shall I just give that a go? You have to do it when there is some sun or UV though ?

Since xmas its had new alloys, new tyres and new brake calipers and pads on all four corners, even though it all went through the MOT ok, you could feel they were sticking. feels like a different car now and just had a quote for the bump in the wheel arch to be fixed £400....

so still not sure why insurance wrote it off....

Paid my car tax. Cheapest I’ve ever paid on a car (£195).

Tempted to wash the car, but then I have to drive through multiple rivers across the road to get to work, so there’s not really much point.
I washed the car today to take advantage of the dry and sunny weather we had, but like you, I'm not sure if there was much point as it'll probably get dirty again on Monday when I go into work.

It was too dirty though and I was getting annoyed that my fingers were getting dirty every time I use the boot button, so I had to wash it for a couple days of respite on that front :p

Damage has to be larger than 10mm in the “A Zone” which is 145mm either side of the steering wheel. 40mm anywhere else. MOT won’t care

I'm sure it's something you could fix yourself, although it's pretty small anyway.

Cheers both makes me feel a bit morr confident it will pass. I'll probably get it through the MOT first then use the kit

Thanks

Does it have to be more than 10 mm in diameter or circumferencej

What about a straight line ?

Also if it's in the A zone would a repair pass it ? Or would they not consider anything in the A zone even a repair ?

I think the issue with the actual thing is there isn't really any hole that I could inject the resin in to. Id have to use the pin pick to try make a hole

Ex Autoglass, albeit I left 8 years ago.

It’s 10mm across its largest point. You aren’t suppose to repair anything that’s larger than 10mm to begin with.

A chip like this isn’t really a chip in the true sense of the word. It hasn’t broken through the glass entirely, but has just put a small divot in the surface. The main thing is it doesn’t weaken the glass significantly enough for it to be a risk of cracking down the line etc.

If you want to reduce its visibility you just need to do what is the last step of the repair. Dribble some resin on and catch with the Mylar square, then lay over the damage and let it cure
