https://www.google.co.uk/amp/wccftech.com/amd-ryzen-am4-motherboard-round-up-msi-gigabyte-asrock-asus-x370/amp/ From about half way down the page, the author gives you tables of features from most to least expensive board categorised per brand. This has been a good starting place for me for...

There's so much talk about how 'mediocre' these results are (which most of us were expecting seeing as these are DX11 games and are running memory at low speeds on immature BIOS). What I find more concerning (because I was fully expecting the above comments and reviews when the NDA was dropped...

AMD aren't gonna look so good tomorrow when even a prime stockist in OcUK cannot receive their stock correctly. If there are literally thousands of customers not able to play around with their new systems tomorrow AMD are gonna get slated. I prey for a smooth launch tomorrow! Intel fanboys are...

I just phoned two different companies (NOT OcUK) and both are having trouble with 1800X not being in stock (well one guy said he received 4 today when he was supposed to receive 200! ). The 1700 and 1700X are of no issue and have been in stock for nearly a week. All stock coming from...

By pure chance of stumbling across a bargain I've gone overkill (with a mix of plenty of optimism) and bought 4*8GB@3466mhz. Gettin the 1800x paired with Crossfire which is already rated at 3200mhz+ and has a dedicated facility that boosts the memory (or so ASUS claim). I half expect sometime...

I can only go on what the official AMD marketing says as I referred to in the links I posted. Maybe Gibbo could clarify this for you so it puts it to bed. I don't wanna seem like a knob that goes against the grain. I'll happily put my hands up if I have misread/misunderstood it.

No they don't. The X stands for XFR. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-ryzen-7-eight-core-1800x-4.00ghz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-39v-am.html https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-ryzen-7-eight-core-1700x-3.80ghz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-39w-am.html...

Yes, you're right, my bad. I quick searched revealed this: "AMD's upcoming Ryzen processors are "unlocked," in that they feature unlocked base-clock multipliers that let you easily overclock them; yet a few of its variants feature a brand extension "X." As our older article details, the "X"...

I'm sure the XFR essentially stands for auto overclocking based on the cooler and the temperatures. The 1700X and 1800X mean they can be manually overclocked by enthusiasts.

When I read it like that, yeah it does actually seem like that. But what does it mean when they say "...makes it easy to fit with AM3/AM4 coolers..." and "...you'll get more life out of your previous cooler!" I'm now confused after you pointed that out. :D

At this stage I'd say that it strictly relates to that exact ASUS board (which I was eyeing up before the ludacrous price :().

My new build ready for 1800x Ryzen

Hi I haven't built a brand new PC from scratch since my Core2Quad Q6600 back in 2008ish. I've been hankering over Ryzen for a long while now and decided I best order all my components ready for when Ryzen arrives at my front door which we now know will be March 2nd. Here are the specs to my...
