Have you tried any clean up software? Try the C drive utility first, their is a lot of crap left over with the upgrade/install.

From my experience with Photoshop and SSD's is, a scratch disc is not needed. Fan controllers get their power from the PSU and only connect with the MOBO if they are PWM controlled. The cheaper ones are not. Good luck with your upgrade.

This is a very common problem with many ways to cause it. RF interference is usually the culprit. Optimum cable routing can help. Extensions are sometimes needed. Could be USB devices, try unplugging, or different placing.

Any Crucial drive will be OK. Choose the one that is on offer when you are ready to buy.

Or get better specced fans with higher RPMs.

Check the connections, try using it without installing it, you will then know if it's shorting when mounted.
