How would this work? surely the cost of a 2070s would be the same if not more then what you would get for selling your 2080 ?

Get it returned , From past experience seems like the memory is bad on the card, Don't let it put you off amd cards you are just unlucky. Edit , although you cant say where you purchased the card , was it on the bay or another pc parts retailer and what brand is the card

Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut is the one to use, very little is needed people tend put too much on i'd look at some videos on youtube regarding application. For cleaning it off I find getting the bulk of it off with a dry cloth or cotton bud then wiping over with some isopropyl alcohol
