How are you deciding between 6800 and 6800XT?

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the difference in TDP yet? 6800 is 250W and the XTs are 300W. If you have a small room, you might want to ensure good ventilation, else it become uncomfortably hot inside. Not that I'm speaking from experience or anything ;)

less than a week to go amd 6800 cards

I looked them up and they're the coords of the Asus global headquarters in Taiwan. A bit strange to plaster on a GPU if you ask me... :D

    SSD / HDD Caching ?

Thanks for this. If it were me I would hold off updating just a little longer. Last I heard the May 2020 update was causing problems with Storage Spaces.

    SSD / HDD Caching ?

From what I understand, the version of StoreMI released a couple of years ago was liable to data loss, but StoreMI 2.0 now works as you described: write-through caching, where all data is saved first to the HDD, then copied over to the SSD. If the two are separated, no data is lost. See the...

    Firestrike Standard Bench.

Yes, of course. FS by Reddit/u/regack', and it's an RX 480 combo breaker at 14.7K. :) FS by @obiwantoby (Discord), RX 480 FS by @basso (Discord), RX 480(2x) FS by me.

    Firestrike Standard Bench.

Kaapstad, I am member of the AMD Reddit Discord server. Even being from the UK myself they are (generally :D) a lovely bunch. I have lots of FireStrike benchmarks to post with you all on their behalf, so here goes. The formatting is @Discord name (Reddit username), so: @brutuscat2's benchmark...

Will Displaying A Higher Resolution Than 1080p On My 1080p Telly Do It Any Damage..?

All three of you above are absolutely correct. +1

AMD POLARIS RX-480 IN STOCK: THE PERFECT GAMING UPGRADE!!

Re: RX 480 Nitro ^ Gibbo, that is a fantastic deal! No wonder you expect them to sell like hotcakes - because they darn well should! Now all I need to do is find £250... gah, why do you tempt me like this? :(

    Current Computer Project

That's great, what you're doing. Have you tried Linux yet? Linux Mint is a good place to start (preferably in a virtual machine, as you're not going to mess up your Windows installation), as it's a lot more hands-on and there's a decent amount of work at the CLI, although Kali Linux would be...

    Current Computer Project

Hey, that's okay. I wish you the best of luck with your hardware tinkering/modding. I'm not really clear about what you were saying - were you planning on getting the 3840QM for the benefit of a better CPU and to see better RAM performance? Because combined it's $500, and that's ridiculous -...

    Current Computer Project

Do you need to do that? I've had a couple of laptops that have lasted about 5 years each. I never took either of them apart to clean them once. And the only times I had a look inside were just before I replaced them (due to a desire to upgrade, not because they failed) - the first about 5 years...

    Another gaming build query

    1. No. The 980 Ti will probably be the same price as a 970 once the new graphics cards are out, so then you can either grab a couple of them for the price you'd pay for a single card now, or invest in the top tier tech of Pascal/Polaris. It's a generational leap, and the performance should be...

    Spec check Pease

Nah, it's alright. I wrote half of that at 2am, so ignore most of what I said. :D Regarding the case, the NZXT website states on the H440 product page: "GPU Clearance With HDD Cage: 294mm GPU Clearance Without HDD Cage: 428mm" Which means your card and any other 390 will fit - you'll...

    Upgrade Help for VR

No, you'll be fine. An i5, especially one such as yours, even at stock speeds will never be a bottleneck with a high-end (e.g. Titan) card in this generation - and probably not next generation, either. Having said that, as others mentioned, you'd be much better off saving for Pascal/Polaris...

The 212 EVO is the most available cooler, and while it's not necessarily the very quietest (still better than stock), others like the Pure Rock are an absolute pain to install. I put a Cryorig H7 (better in every way but hard to find) in my i5-6600 non-K system, and even during an extended...

    So many options

The only cooler manufacturer to have any reported bending issues was Scythe. You'd be fine. Really. (Manufacturers such as Cryorig suggested that any possible damage would likely be during transport, but you should be careful when transporting PCs anyway. It shouldn't put you off Skylake; it's a...

Help gathering some info about cards :)

No idea what I'm doing this for, but here goes. :D Hardware: GTX 460 (borrowed from a friend - hey, it's 5.5 years old, but useful for legacy reference on an otherwise modern system... I hope?), Skylake i5-6600 (non-K), generic 2 x 4GB DDR4-2133 RAM. First program: 11 Mkey/s, ± 0.2 Mkey/s...

    Has my Graphics card died?

To quote from another thread: So the R9 380 has better performance than a GTX 960, but either of those would be able to play games in 1080p at 50-70FPS on high/ultra, and potentially 100-144FPS at high/medium, depending on the game. (144FPS on CS:GO for example at max settings, certainly.)...
