First gaming PC with future proofing to allow for rolling upgrades

As the monitor is basically something that I have moved on from, I don't see upgrading it as a priority - I think mid-level gaming is perhaps the aim for this system, along with the ability to be upgraded in the coming years (so with a motherboard and socket that doesn't rapidly fall out out...

First gaming PC with future proofing to allow for rolling upgrades

Thanks all - to confirm that I wouldn’t expect this to be running cutting edge stuff at all, initially things like vanilla Minecraft at the top end (although I suppose with enough mods Minecraft can be demanding too), and it’s not a requirement for the initial purchase to be able to run things...

First gaming PC with future proofing to allow for rolling upgrades

Monitor is a Dell S2716DG - which has been fine for me (both gaming and work) but is the one thing I have actually upgraded recently (needed a bigger screen to fit more spreadsheet on...) Looks like a good selection though, and good to know that AM5 is good for a couple of generations too.

First gaming PC with future proofing to allow for rolling upgrades

Thanks - already have a spare monitor and peripherals, will need to factor in Windows license though (complete forgot about that!)

First gaming PC with future proofing to allow for rolling upgrades

Hi all, I had hoped to pass on my aging PC on-to my son when I performed a wholesale upgrade on my system, but that sadly didn't come about. Therefore, I wondered if there was a bare minimum specification for an entry level PC that would offer the most future proofing and way of adding...

    Easily removable hard drive?

Hi all, I am thinking about the security of my desktop, and I think although obviously it's fairly hidden away and not high value - it would still present a temptation to any would be thieves. Whilst the hardware is... dated... my bigger concern would be the hard drives and related data, and...

Casual use bike - Riverside 920 or Carrera Subway

    Brilliant - thanks all!

Casual use bike - Riverside 920 or Carrera Subway

That also looks nice, but it looks like the kind of bike that would bring great shame on me when I wheel it out of the garage on occasion and it's covered in dust/spiders - but you see my issue with getting a bike is that the options are endless, you balance out reviews and think you've got it...

Casual use bike - Riverside 920 or Carrera Subway

Thanks! That's exactly the kind of curveball I like - looks good, is cheaper than either of my options and sounds like just what I need (I live in the flat lands of Lincolnshire, so there's not many hills in getting from A to B currently, just a bit of mud occasionally when it's easier to cut...

Casual use bike - Riverside 920 or Carrera Subway

Hi all, After spending a few days going around in circles on various bikes, and the array of reviews and opinions that are on the internet - I think I down to one of the above as my selection; it doesn't need to be fast, it just needs to get me from A to B without failing and without causing...

Replacement fan for Corsair A50 High Performance Heat Sink?

Thanks both - can confirm it's rubber pins, given the age I'll try to be gentle! Can confirm I am wanting functional (but effective!) over flashy - both suggestions look good, so thank you for that too.

Replacement fan for Corsair A50 High Performance Heat Sink?

Hi all, This might be a super easy question to answer, but I'd appreciate the guidance all the same. I have an aging PC that I have just shifted into a new case (old case had that lovely rubber coating that became very sticky) and bumped up RAM and processor at a low cost so I can hand it...

Where to go for careers guidance in your 40s?

Thanks - certainly looks interesting and I'm willing to pay for quality guidance. Yes, I think recruitment consultants tend to match like-for-like, they may have an idea of the areas they are seeing a rise in searches in a given sector/location, but I don't think they'd be so good at...

Where to go for careers guidance in your 40s?

Haha! Yes, that thought does cross my mind most days - "what if this is just because I'm getting on a bit..." - but honestly, no, it's more that I feel a need for a change, and I don't see any with the current way my career path is going. I've slept on it, put it to one side until after periods...

Where to go for careers guidance in your 40s?

Thanks. Essentially I didn't have a career plan as such, just worked hard in a variety of roles since leaving school and managed to make progress and gain promotions, however, one of these promotions has been a sideways move and now left me in a team and department that has a niche...

Where to go for careers guidance in your 40s?

Hi all, As the title really, is there a reliable sounding board where someone takes stock of your experiences, interests and qualifications and offers you potential next steps that you could take? Thanks!

    USB Lock for Desktop PC

Hi all, Having a bit of a security wobble about the things stored on my home PC and automatic password completion (on Chrome, etc) that I have set-up because it was easier than remembering them. If someone stole my desktop, they could wreck a fair amount of havoc although some log-ins are 2FA...

Advice on best pre-build for £1000

@Haz123 - excellent, thank you - I would think that if I went for a better motherboard (and took the cost hit) that would make future upgrades less of an ordeal as it would be a solid base to build on? That's the logic that used to work for me anyway... Also thanks for the GPU feedback, good to...

Advice on best pre-build for £1000

@Joxeon - no issues with building myself, I did my current PC myself (well, actually it started as an Evesham computer, but then...), but I am older and time poor and it just seemed easier to start again with a pre-build and then tinker with that. I'm more tied to Nvidia (have the Shield for...

Advice on best pre-build for £1000

Excellent - thank you, I think I could stretch another couple of hundred to ensure I get a decent cooler and PSU (recommendations welcome!); but really useful to know that it's a good starting point.
