    Ultra 7 155H, Ultra 9 185H or Ryzen 7 8845HS?

The new laptop I'm thinking of buying effectively gives me the choice of the above three CPUs with all other components the same (other than chipsets, obviously). Passmark ranks them in ascending order as listed above but I expect there's more to their relative performance than that. As far as...

Those of us on the "throw a lap in where the desktop rig was" crusade - connectivity options?

Yeah, I have a Plugable USB-3 to 2.5GbE dongle I use with my laptop when I want more than wi-fi speeds. Works very well.

Those of us on the "throw a lap in where the desktop rig was" crusade - connectivity options?

The one I want is the Caldigit TS4 as it seems to be the only one with 2.5GbE but at £399..........

    Advice on buying an laptop

Batteries in modern laptops are not easily removable. Most if not all laptops have the facility to only charge the battery to 60% to preserve its life when the laptop is normally powered from the mains.

    Most reliable SDCARD ?

I've used Sandisk Extreme Pro for as long as I've used digital cameras and not had a failure. However, I wasn't prepared to pay their prices for USB II cards and have moved to Sony M series which seem to be a decent alternative.

Thoughts on the Lenovo Legion quality

There's a huge thread dedicated to the Legion 5 Pro (plus any others that crept in) and there aren't many reports of problems. I have one that's just coming up to three years old. I keep thinking about replacing it but can't really justify it as it's still working perfectly.

Initialising disk failing in Computer Management

Frankly, I think you're worrying about it too much and spending far too much time and energy on it. It's a 60GB IDE HDD. Who on earth is going to be interested in it or what's on it? Just chuck it in the recyciing.

    2.5 Gbe switch recommendation please

Thanks, everyone. I'll have a look at the alphabet soup of Chinese suppliers in the usual place.

    Quiet 12~14TB HDD?

I have a pair of 18TB shucked from WD Elements enclosures and they're not quiet as they clunk and grumble continuously. Fortunately, they're normally only switched on in the early morning and their noise is drowned out by my wife's snoring.

    Thoughts on this tripod please

It's 43cm and the case is 47cm. I'm also pleased to see I was wrong on the cost as it's only £259 direct from Sirui.

    Thoughts on this tripod please

Same here - I have an ET-2204 which I'm very happy with but it's too much over budget for the OP.

    Thoughts on this tripod please

Seems good apart from the lowest leg sections which are a spindly 14.7mm. Consider the Sirui ST-124 which is around the same price and has 17.5mm lowest leg sections. The downside is you lose the horizontal centre column.

    2.5 Gbe switch recommendation please

I'm after an unmanaged 8-port 2.5 Gbe switch. The obvious one seems to be the TP-Link TL-SG108-M2 so does anyone have any experience with this switch? Are there better alternatives? TIA

Recommended me a camera for up to £300

What sort of camera are you after? A compact, mirrorless or DSLR? The compact camera market no longer exists, killed off by smartphones, so used is the only affordable option there. The cheapest new DSLR is £450 so used is, again, the only option. There aren't any cheap new mirrorless...

AMD Vs Intel for CPU intensive tasks

AMD is generally considered a bit better for battery life. I suggest putting a selection of CPUs into the compare facility at https://www.cpubenchmark.net/ to get some sort of idea of relative performance. Make sure you compare both R7 and R9 against i7 and i9 where available. I don't think the...

Need Help Choosing DAS Backup Solution

No, a single drive is not the answer, especially if it's internal to the PC. Think about what happens if the PSU puts a spike on various voltages. You need multiple drives used in rotation. I have four external drives that can each hold three images of my PC. So, imaging once a month, I have a...

Bluntly, buy something better. It's a bottom-of-the-range NAS and not designed to be upgradeable.
