You shouldn't run more than one firewall, they could conflict with each other and possibly cause your computer to freeze. The same applies for anti virus programs. Personally i would recommend comodo's firewall, which is free and a lot better than the windows xp firewall.

Have you tested your ram with memtest?

Idle temps mean nothing, it's the load temps that really matter.

Overclock the Q6600 to at least 3ghz, but you should be able to get between 3.2-3.6ghz with the right settings.

I use both ati and nvidia and never really have any major driver problems, usually just the odd bug here and there. To be honest, when it comes to drivers both companies aren't perfect.
