    AMD Bulldozer Finally!

Agreed, the assets should be preloaded into RAM before the level starts. For open-world roaming games (obvlivion-esque where you dynamically load assets for a given area as you approach it) it might be of some transient benefit though, make things a bit smoother when you reach transition areas...

    AMD Bulldozer Finally!

Well, lucky me, I was at the Red Hat Summit in Boston a few weeks ago, and saw the AMD booth. Naturally I went and pestered them, and they had a machine with Bulldozer in it (one of the server chips), and were doing a demo where they live transferred VMs between boxes extremely rapidly. I...

and I wonder if any of the new boards will have EFI in them

    AMD Bulldozer Finally!

Right, the grand assumption being that they lose market share on the basis of poorer performance. I should have qualified the statement with "those institutions, organisations and individuals who purchase based upon price-to-performance characteristics". And availability, obviously. edit...

    AMD Bulldozer Finally!

That's a very valid point, people make fallacious arguments about bang-for-buck, but you can't really make any judgement until both products are on the open market. I think we can almost certainly guarantee that Intel will aggressively shift their prices to compete if BD turns out to be a...

    AMD Bulldozer Finally!

Absolutely agree, the vast majority of customers buy a cheap machine from Dell/HP or whatever, with no care who the OEMs are. The only reason a standard, non-technical consumer would insist on Intel is because of the Intel advertising behemoth. For those in the know, the decision should...

    Monitor decision!

That image does not fairly represent the changes in vertical resolution versus horizontal. The vertical part is fixed whilst the horizontal flows, so it isn't comparable.

That would make sense for an engineering sample, motherboard manufacturers have probably had them for 6 months+, might not be absolutely identical to the shipped ones in terms of manufacturing process.

They are still there for me, although you hot-linked them which is a bit naughty.

What is the "that" you refer to? If you mean the pig, that was added to mask unique serial numbers...

    I need a good desk

Same, I have the super-cheap Vika Amon, does the trick nicely, although I wish it were a little deeper so I could put the monitor further away. That is more to do with being long-sighted though I think.

Put my mind to rest, is it the psu?

Yep sounds like you're right. You should be able to get the PSU replaced on warranty if it is under 3 years old though :).

can you have 1 60hz monitor and 1 120hz monitor on the same comp?

if you look in the monitor control panel it should tell you what refresh rate it is currently operating at

Ok finally gonna sort this problem

Agreed, so I think it is either the motherboard, or the PSU is often incapable of providing sufficient voltage at cold-boot. So it will be interesting to see the voltages under heavy load from OCCT.

Overhaul of miniscule living room, little project

Very interesting, some good ideas to try and overhaul my tiny bedroom (same measurements as your room). A good excuse to get rid of the stuff other people have dumped in here despite it being the smallest room in the house too! Probably only 7ft by 7ft though. Considering getting a high bed...

Ok finally gonna sort this problem

I'm on Linux again atm, so I can't view the app. I seem to recall it is fairly obvious/simple to find in the configuration (to add extra voltage outputs), and you just need to click one of the UI tabs to show the voltage info at run-time.

Intel 10-core Xeon processors (20 cores)

Almost all energy that goes into a CPU emerges as heat, so whatever it consumes in watts == heat that must be dissipated. So as the voltage is increased, and the real-time power consumption jumps it will generate plenty of heat. The characteristic you describe isn't really intrinsic to the...

    AMD Bulldozer Finally!

I'm not too certain that your impatience will hasten the launch of a multi-billion dollar product line, but as you're defecting to enemy number 1 - who knows ;). And yes, I know you didn't expect them to, I'm just teasing. The point is, I doubt AMD are going to prioritise the release new...

Ok finally gonna sort this problem

Post your PSU voltages under OCCT load after 5 minutes.

    Problem on startup

Just disable sleep mode and try again (turn your monitor off if you are worried about burn-in just disable sleep on the graphics card), also see if there is anything interesting the the SMART section (export the data, screen-shot or whatever). Also the BIOS update is potentially important, do...
