Your longest drive in ONE day?

1374 miles in 29 hours That's Newcastle > Nurburgring > Newcastle via Billericay on the way there. It was a spur of the moment idea to visit the Nurburgring with a few friends in 2008. Unfortunately it was shut due to snow when we got there :D. I did all of the driving apart from the last leg...

A friend of mine is in the forces and has an e39 530, seems like the perfect car for him. It doesn't get used during the week, when it does get used on a weekend it's for long jaunts home and is nice and comfortable. What's with all the nearly new cars at dealers?

Employees at Nissan Sunderland can lease a car for 12 month periods using the NEVOS scheme. They pay a monthly fee for the cars, and basically only have to add fuel. After 12 months they hand them back and get another new one. As said, it's designed to feed the nearly new market. Prices from...

    Potentially stupid question about turbochargers

I was about to mention the B18c, mine made 214 BHP on standard fuel pressure and injectors, they're 240cc. It did occasionally hit 100% duty on cold days though.

Insurance provider changing policy without consent...

I had similar hassle with them last week. A few weeks ago, before taking out my renewal, I did a quote with Admiral and added a claim to the quote, a friend had just had a claim due to the recent floods and I was nothing but curious as to how much that would have affected my premium. Fast...

    Show Us Your Motors!

I had use of a 220 turbo for a few months last year, it had Nankangs on, they came with the Pro Race 1.2s that were put on the car. They were bad, even in the dry they had nothing going for them at all, in the wet they were a bit of a handfull. So there, I've used Nankangs on the 220 turbo...

Help! Revs dropping and shuddering ?

Civic Vtis don't have a MAF sensor or a camshaft sensor. The coilpacks, specifically the ignition amplifiers, are a common failure point on the B series engine. I'd be inclined to check for obvious problems first though, such as degraded plug leads and plugs, earth condition and so on.

Paying a garage to fix a problem and having the problem come back

Had this exact issue with mine. No amount of money could find the bottom of the problem and I ended up selling the car because of it. I put up with regular oil top ups for 5 years then just gave in. Shame really, they're incredible cars even when they don't work properly!

Strangest thing you've seen while driving?

A few years ago me and two friends were driving to London to pick a car up. On the A1 on the way there we drove past an old ish man in a Lexus when I did an instant double take. He had a pair of knickers stretched over his steering wheel! I luckily had my camera with me so grabbed it straight...

What are the current best tyres?

Rather than create a new thread, which tyre is more likely to offer greater longevity, the Asymmetric 2 or Sportcontact 5? They will be going on the rear of a E46.

Petrol tanker drivers to go on strike

I have to drive Newcastle to Plymouth in about an hour, which isn't a problem, I have a full tank and people don't seem to be panic buying up here. Getting home on Sunday may be a different story, though.:p

Anyone used new Lemforder AND Meyle control arms + bushes?

The bushes which are common to wear on the front of an e46, in fact the only bushes on the front control arm of an e46 are on the rear of the arm. Confusing name is confusing. They're at the rear of the front control arm :)

Anyone used new Lemforder AND Meyle control arms + bushes?

Replacing the rear control arm bushes on an e46 is really quite simple and doesn't require the removal of the arms from the car. The only reason you'd replace the entire arm and not just the bushes is if the ball joints were worn. They can't be replaced separately on the OEM arms, this is...
