    Worst pain you've experienced?

I suffer from not-funny constipation. Have been admitted to hospital several times. I remember seeing a locum in the middle of the night at a walk-in centre. Big fella with massive hands. Seriously would have happily opted for lethal injection during that procedure.

Thanks Have spoken to Santander and they say they may be able to raise a dispute but let's hear what e-bookers say first. Alas, I would not know how to do a screen grab. Sorry. Advice welcome. Tangentially, do they have postcodes in Ireland? I managed to get a postal address for...

What's your General Election voting history?

No. Refers to trend setters. For instance, there are 'bellwether' states in the US which are a good barometer for who wins the presidency. Eg. whoever Ohio votes for tends to become the President. Just a comment on the fact you have always voted for the party that ended up in power.

    Travelling across America

First of all, if you are flying to New York and heading East you will need swimwear. Secondly, if you are cycling I recommend going West to East. That way you are benefitting from prevailing winds and doing the hardest stuff first. I cycled from LA to NY in August 2010. Blooming hot (40C+...

    Nelson Mandela has died

Adams (and the Loyalists) had the ballot box. And unpicking the rights and wrongs of Ireland in the wake of he 1922 settlement does not compare to a fascist state depriving the most basic human liberties from the majority of its citizens on the basis of the colour of their skin. Mandela is...

    Nelson Mandela has died

This. I was born in Rhodesia and spent time in South Africa in the early 80s. History will see the ends as justifying the means.

Multiplying two negative numbers together: a real world example?

Reminds me of the story of the internationally renowned linguistics professor who gives a public lecture in Glasgow. He makes the point that although there are dozens of languages in the world where a double negative means a positive, he had yet to encounter a single example of a language where...

    Mortgage Dilema

We fixed in 2005 for 5 years at 4.44%. It was up just over a year ago and I assumed we would go onto variable, which was about 4.6% with our lender. Went through the entire process of buying a 1.89% above base mortgage from another lender for £999. On the day we were due to sign got a letter...

    New Neighbours

My kids are 15 and 10. The neighbours have toddlers and there is actually something quite nice when they wake me up screaming and fighting at 5am on a Saturday and I realise that I do not have to get up to sort them out.
