Official Heavenly Sword (PS3) Gameplay thread...

That's what makes me very wary about listening to folks with just a PS3. I only want the cream of the crop on all consoles.

The PS3 doesn't have a cream of the crop yet IMO (Haven't played HS so can't comment on that) Warhawk is good but way way over-rated. RB6Vegas, Oblivion and The Darkness are awesome, I love them all, but they have been on 360 a while and I believe are better ports on the 360.

I guess Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a Cream of the Crop title if you haven't played it's predecessor on the 360.

Theres plenty to keep me interested but nothing that really stands out... Yet!

****minor spoiler alert****

When Kai said to the Armory general 'Maybe i will attack your weak spot for massive damage' obviously a dig at the E3 Genji presentation
Guess I'd have to be a follower of Genji then or something as that means nothing to me, I just thought it was funny and that was all :s

Ohh yeh I have another gripe with the game (besides its lenght) the last damn battle with Bohan, rather stupidly done in the very last bit with soldiers still randomly running across with no purpoise or direction >.<

Its class. I love the gameplay, very fast paced and on your feet. Wouldnt say its the best games ive played, but its certainly one of the better games.

I thoroughly enjoyed Heavenly Sword - it's like taking part in an epic fantasy/anime feature. Bar a few niggles and the length of the game, it's one of the more enjoyable experiences i've had this gen on any platform.

Pop down Blockbuster and rent it for a few nights, you can't go wrong. I completed in two long sessions and will probably rent it again sometime in the future to complete again.

Oh trust me it is mate

This is the first game I have bought for my PS3 since its release, so my 360 has had all my attention

But this game is just something else

It is rather short, but to be honest, first time you play it through, you wont have mastered the combat system. I'm playing it through on Hell Mode now, and I must admit I am getting rather good at combat and the game just got so much more fun

The game is so immersive as well. The cut scenes make you wonder whether it is still a game or a blockbuster movie.

Graphically, it's up there with anything out there on the market today, its just superb. Everything just looks so real, and some of the settings just add that extra element that make this an AAA title. It should be noted that occasionaly you get the odd slow down, but even that cant take away much from this game

I seriously recommend anyone go buy this game, its not as if its expensive, 35 is the most expensive I've seen in the shops which is good for a brand new PS3 game. It may be short but you'll play through it again and again guarenteed if you enjoy this type of game.

100% agree.

I own both the 360 and ps3. In fact I am one of thouse who does not care what platform the game is on, I am only bothered about how good the game is. I must admit though I do spend a lot more time on my 360 since ATM it as a lot of good games. But Hevenly sword is one of the best games I have played in a very long time on any format.

Has anyone else found the boss battles to be a little annoying? It's like Ninja Team took everything that shouldn't be done in a boss fight and extened on it - learn by trial and error, then repeat what you've learnt over and over and over. Pretty boring. They were repetitive first time around, but after running through the game quickly again they stood out even more.

Heavenly Sword is still a cracking little game, just one that could have been amazing had a few niggles been ironed out.

It's not so much Genji but E3 performances by Sony in the past. It is up their with Giant Enemy Crabs and Rrrrriiidddgggeee RRRrrrracceeerrrr in tearms of ridicule.
:)

Graphically it's very nice, however ingame it's not in the same league as Gears of War for me, but the cut-scenes are terrific.

I had you down as one of the people who talks sense on here till I read that :p

I reckon this looks better than GOW, though they do both go for different styles.

BTW, 360 and PS3 owner here, and I rate HS highly. No AAA title unfortunately, but very good.

Well i bought the game this morning and just finished it now.

Loved every minute of it, couldn't put it down, which is rare for me, as i bore easily.

Fantastic graphics, loved the fighting, cut scenes are great and the story is immersive.

Thumbs up from me. :)

Well i just finished it, i thought it was excellent, never found the combat boring of either type, the levels were varied enough to keep it all interesting never had a problem with the Kai bits at all. I sometimes wonder where these game reviews come from, 4 out of 10? 6 out of 10? Think they must need there head testing. Ok its not GOW2 (best game ive played all year inc bioshock) but its one of my favorite games i played this year very hard to put down once you started it. I agree it could have been longer, but im not sure if that would spoil the pace of the game, perhaps a few mini boss type battles or a few more hero sequences, not sure really. Liked the story although not the most original but it was one of those games that had you gripped possibly due to the amazing quality of the Cut scenes, acting and just the general movie like presentation. I cant wait till the next one, even though Ninja theory have said if it sells well they may add some extras via DLC. One thing i thought as i was playing it, is how awesome is God of War 3 going to be!!

I'm there too, the first bit isn't too bad once you get to dodging his long range attacks, he's pretty poor up close if you're quick.

I've had one go at the second bit of the fight and got very few hits on him, the long range attack is very tricky to avoid and up close he seems to block everything :( I may have to search for a guide...

You prob done it by now but i found the final boss quite easy to do (only died twice, mainly coz i was stupid). The first part dont bother with other enemys they dont attack you, just roll around until he starts to power up his range attack as soon he launches it check to see if you need to change stance and as soon as it his your guard press triangle, if you quite close you will always hit him. After this just roll around again until he gets bored and moves back to use his ranged attack. I never tried to fight him close range at all, when you knock his health down to zero just do the hero sequence. The second one is a bit harder to time the counters but as before check which colour and press the R1 if power, same as before you have to counter as soon as it hits you not before! Then like the first stage roll around until he get fed up and then flies up in the air, one attack to watch out for is unblockable slide thing he does when he is in the air, but thats not to hard to dodge with the roll as long as you are fast enough. If you manage to return all his attacks he will fall to the ground stunned, this gives you enough time for a power combo before he gets up. Repeat until his health has gone and then finish off with the hero sequence thing. The final part is like both the other stages mixed together (flying attacks and ranged attacks on the ground), but he has another aerial attacks when he launches loads of ravens at you, before this happens you will hear a noise like a scream, just roll doge these attacks. When you have taken 25% of his health he will stand still for a bit for a hero sequence starting off with the circle button, then use the same process as before to get his health down to 50% for another hero sequence again he'll pause for a bit and start with circle. Finally take his health down to about zero using the same counter techniques as you used before and finish him off with the final hero sequence.
Hope this help all people having problems with the final boss battle.

Also, please remember how much easier it is to render scenes for games like Heavenly Sword than Gears of War.

Sure. I do doubt that the 360 could handle some of the more hectic battles in Heavenly Sword, though. The amount of debris and bodies flying around is awesome. After qite a few fights I just stopped and thought 'wow' at the mess.

You doubt the 360 could do it? I think the 360 could definitely do it myself, though the PS3 does have the better CPU for physics etc.. it's the PS3 that has always struggled compared to the Xbox360 so far.

Unfortunately we'll never know.
