White Gold vs Platinum (girly jewelery)

All the opinions posted were taken into account and helped me come to my decision ;)

1.52 is the size.
bds is probably VVS which is Very Slight Inclusion (still very top end, one below perfect)
And they'll be a letter which is the colour. G is colourless, then H, I, to about K I think which is a yellow.

From Tiffany's that price is probably about right. Although it was US, which is a little cheaper, but for some reason, Tiffany prices seem to be the same in every country. I checked NY when we were there and the prices were no cheaper really.

Wow!

Thanks... I honestly felt sick when the guy at work said it was about that much.

Can't believe people spend so much on a ring! Plus I dunno if I could trust myself walking around with £10k on my finger :/

Back on topic,

Go for the platinum earrings. I did and, as has been said, it makes it easier for her to wear them on a regular basis.

Platinum looks better for longer.

Yup, agreed. Thanks. Plus it matched the engagement ring so make sit more of a "set".

Thanks for you help :)

I might have to have two - the real one for special occasions and a slightly less expensive but does the job one for everyday ;)

Yeah 1.5 princess cut the other things I overheard her say were "bds1, 1.52" so the 1.52 must be the carat... dunno what the other stuff is.

Did I guess the price near enough? (£10-15K)?

Found a loose diamond:

Shape: Princess
Cut: Good
Carat: 1.52
Color: H
Clarity: VVS1
Regular Price: $9811

Add about $600 for platinum setting.

Thats only about £5k though... so I guess stick another £5k for Tiffanys.

I personally wouldn't want something "off the shelf" ;)

Hee hee!!! Thanks for your help Mr Norbert!

My gf (who works for Beaverbrooks) was told during training at work that if all the discovered platinum in the world was melted down and poured into an Olympic sized swimming pool, the melted platinum would only get to your ankle!

Gives you an idea of how little there is in comparison to Gold!
Not really, unless you tell us how much of the pool all the gold would fill...

A question for you Belle:

Back on the platinum discussion, do earrings get dirty? i.e. tarnish? I guess they do?

I doubt Platinum would tarnish. Metals don't really get dirty (apart from ear gunk which is easy to get rinsed off ;) not that your missus has dirty ears or anything! - and this only appears if you haven't changed the studs for years anyway...)

Other than that (and if she isn't allergic etc) it shouldn't get dirty at all I should think :)

world supply for platinum in 2006 was 217,700kg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platinum#Production)

platinum density is 21.4 g/cm^3 and an olympic sized swimming pool is 50m x 25m.

That gives us 10,172,897 cubic centimetres of platinum, which would come 8.1 mm high, not even ankle high.

gold density is 19.3 g/cm^3 and they reckon there is 145,000,000 kg ever mined. So 7,512,953,367 cubic centimetres, which would fill an olympic sized swimming pool 6 metres deep.

Got a bit of spare time on your hands!! :p

Anyway, now I need some ideas on how to drop hints that she should buy me a surprise present on the wedding day: I'm like some new fishing rods...!!!:D

You'll get the best thing you could ever have; the ability to make her feel a little guilty about not buying you anything for the wedding any time you want to treat yourself.

Ingenious!!!

I could in fact just buy the rods myself, and keep them stashed away. And on the day say, well I knew you wouldn't bother so i bought myself these!!

Classic!

I was thinking more along the lines of rod polishing, dancing, ballet etc.

Certainly more fun then fishing, mind if you're getting married I suppose all that is out of the window.
