512MB ATI HD 4870 ve 1GB GeForce 9800 GX2 Crysis Tests

April 2004 Nvidia launched the 6800Ultra (far better IMO than the later launched X800/850, may have been a few FPS slower as it was a DX9C/P.S 3.0 card v a DX9B/P.S 2.0 card.

.

Id disagree, i had both at launch and i found the X800XT PE a better card than the 6800ultra. Well thats in my opinion lol.

Thats your opinion m8, but better cause it could run a few FPS more as it was running at the time a 2.5" year old DX9B tech ?

Bit like Ford bringing out a new car today with square wheels :p.

That's a terrible comparison Helmut :D but I understand what you are trying to get at. I disagree totally though. I had the X800XT PE (AGP) and moved over to a 7600GT OC (PCI-E) and I felt the burn right away. I was playing DX9b games with the X800 at the time there was nothing that stopped me from playing and at a better level than I had with the 7600GT OC. 128bit vs 256bit, Good IQ vs Bad IQ. Is the 6800Ultra not comparable to the 7600GT OC?, and how is the 6800's IQ compared to the X800?.

No how can a 6800Ultra (top model) be compaired to a newer gen 7600GT (non top model) ?, it would be compairable to the 7800GTX.

The 6800Ultra was a 256bit card.

I was comparing to the 7600GT OC. I just thought it would be in the range of the Ultra and couldn't remember the memory interface of the 6800 card hence why I asked. How was the IQ?.

Also I've pointed out that I wasn't playing any ps3 titles at the time so my ps2 titles were flying along.

In fact, in the middle of writing this post I went and had a quick comparison from Tom's Hardware Guide VGA charts and seen this. I checked through every game and benchmark at every resolution and it didn't paint a pretty picture for the Ultra. Check it for yourself if you don't believe me.

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/...rall-all-games-fps,572.html?p=1567,1646,1561,

At 1024x768 and no AA/AF the 7600GT and Ultra are usually neck and neck with the X800 in third (X800 XT not PE). As soon as you add AA/AF at 1024x768 then the X800 usually took the lead. Using AA/AF at 1280x1024, 1600x1200 and 1920x1200 destroyed the Ultra's performance where the X800 and 7600 could cope.

The 7600GT is comparable ;) :p.

In fact, who cares?.

Roll on ATI and Nvidia's new line up and the prospect for an early benchmark :D.

ATI said a few things about its new upcoming RV770 chips, and as we've said before you can expect RV770PRO with DDR3, RV770XT with DDR5 support and the top end, R700 aka (RV770X2) with two RV770XT chips in a dual-card configuration.

The new GPUs are 55nm and they are actually an architecture shrink chip with minor architectural changes. Of course, just as RV670, they do support DirectX 10.1 and at the same time, they will bring some significant performance improvements compared to the previous RV670 generation.

The new RV770 chip will also have great improvements in power consumption. The launch date is late Q2 2008, most likely June, but real volume availability is expected in early Q3 2008, probably July.

We still don’t know the clocks or the official name.

well i guess its not this month so my gts will hold me till end of the summer as i have 1 month holiday :D

Didnt they say they where brining a GDDR3 version out in may, with the GDDR5 in late Q2(and subsiquently quicker).

Regardless though, the only real argument pushing this whole 'we want new tech' is crysis, and, I dunno about you guys but I thought it was crap all things considered. Looks pretty but not a lot else.
