I know there's a rumour that the Nvidia price drops are coming this week ... is this a 100% certainty ?

Also would ATI drop their prices as well in response to Nvidia's drops?

Cheers.

The price drop on the GTX260 and 280 products have allegedly already happened (see £305 GTX280 and £206 GTX260). The 9800 GTX should be coming down to the £120-130 mark at some point. Since AMD apparently considers the 4870 the 9800 GTX's price* competitor, there is a small chance they might drop the price of the 4870 to try and hold that position up - that's just speculation on my part, though.

*I'll dig up the slide, one moment.

Hi there

This is the same price drop that happened over a week ago.....

Fact is OcUK is at £305 Inc. VAT for a GTX280, matching US pricing like for like is very hard. These prices are already in action.

A $450 card will be £225 excluding VAT, or £265 including VAT.

Since the 4850s, 4870s and NV's current cards have been US price + VAT, the GTX280 will be between £260 and £270, which is a much fairer price.

I can see them becoming a bit more popular at that price, but if a 4870X2 comes out at around the same price, or slightly more, I can see that 'stealing' GTX280 sales.

HI there

All this talk of lower pricing, after speaking to the manufacturers today they inform me the price drop has already happened, essentially about 2 weeks ago and at the moment there are no plans to drop pricing further.

So either websites stating price drops this week are getting confused or NVIDIA don't even know about it themselves.

Whats happening this week is a new product at a very aggressive price point, but were seeing NO movement in GTX 260 and 280 pricing from the vendors and nothing been confirmed about another price drop.

I know Nvidia dropped the price so why are the EVGA cards still through the roof prices ?.

2 other Vendors dropped their price to you even before the Nvidia one.

The 9800GTX+ is cheap at launch and will drop the cost of the 9800GTX a tad (I only know the price in $).

I think that depends on exactly how much the 4870X2 is. It now appears to be creeping north to some $549 now, and with the inevitable gouging early on (look at the outrageous prices of the GTX280 at release) the 4870X2 could easily be £70+ more expensive. It may well turn out to be superior, but everyone is on a budget and whilst most will pay more to get more, some will just pay what they can.

The GT200 series desperately needs to get onto that higher yield / lower cost 55nm silicon.

Err how?

These are the price drops which have already happened. $500 = £256+vat = £300.80.

As stated, Nvidia must be close to making no money on these.

The 55nm will help them make them cheaper and hence a profit margin again, not to drop the price to £250 for us consumers.

With the 4870x2 expected to be £340 ish now, £300 is about right for the GTX280.

I still would rather wait and get a 55nm core one which is going to be directx 11 compatible, cooler, higher stock core clock speed than get a GTX280 today.

They have come down, now £364 for an EVGA GTX280. I would expect the rest of the range to come down next week as they can't be selling many of them.

You always pay a premium for EVGA tbh and £60 (20%) isn't bad.

Look at 8800GT cards when they were first launched. You had a £25 premium to pay for the cheapest EVGA then which was between 15-20%.

9800GTX ought to drop to current 4850 prices on 9800GTX+ launch as they are the same price in dollars so £120 is what they will finish at.

Glad I sold my 8800GTX G92 512Mb for £126 delivered last week :D

The majority of EVGA GTX280's are still £380++, they have not dropped any decent amount since day 1 on here.

I know EVGA are more expensive as I own 1 but them prices are static apart from the "TWO" deal, that means next to nothing if any drop since the other Vendors price dropped and then the official Nvidia price drop.

As much as they are a better Vendor nobody will buy them at that cost over other Vendors.

There was only a $50 price difference from the EVGA 8800GTS 512 Vanilla to the SSC (4 cards in the range AFAIK) when they launched in a big USA store.

We got hit with a £100++ premium from the Vanilla to the SSC here.

Hmmm, if they do a special for like a day for the evga (or the BFG) card at £299 I would find it so hard to resist I probably would just end up buying it. They would certainly clear the stock :D

I dont have a problem with leadtek, infact I have never owned one, I'd just feel happier with my purchase if it was an Evga, XFX or BFG card.

From that tech power up link, it states the expected price of the GTX280 to be $450, that's £226 + VAT = £265.

The 4870X2 is expected to be $500, which is £250 + VAT = £294. Not too sure how you came to £340.
