Pick your colour

That's a pretty unfair analogy, the 50p banana would have to be slightly rotten in appearance in comparison to a 90p ripe banana :p

To those saying that Dell laptops are marginally cheaper than the equivalents offered by Apple, where's the proof? :p

And the Dell (note it has 1GB more memory and is otherwise exactly the same):

(One thing I forgot; add £30.00 to the Dell for the screen upgrade to match the resolution of the Macbook :)).

but the dell comes with windows vista home premium, er, no thanks,i will deffo stick with my reassuringly expensive macbook:D

The middle specification MBP isn't really an ideal MBP to compare :p

For a fairer comparison, I chose the base model of the Dell XPS M1530 and MBP and if you add the following:

Dell XPS M1530:

  • Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T8300 (2.40 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 3 MB L2 cache)
  • Genuine Windows Vista® Ultimate SP1 - English
  • 15.4" Widescreen WXGA+ (1440x900) TFT Display with TrueLife™
  • Adobe® Photoshop® Elements + Premiere® Elements Bundle (English)
I added the Ultimate version of Windows Vista since it could be more competitive as well as the Adobe bundle to compete with the iLife that comes bundled free with new Macs.

Total: £959.00

Apple MacBook Pro:

  • 250GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
  • Apple Remote
I added the Apple Remote since Apple no longer bundle them with recent MacBook Pros.

Total: £1,344.00

Both prices can be cheaper with student discount however Apple offers more discount in comparison with Dell. Apple even includes a 3 year warranty for free unlike the 1 year standard warranty :p

Now if you want to be picky/fussy, below is the list that the MacBook Pro offers over the Dell XPS M1530 in my opinion:

  • Mac OS X Leopard (had to be said :p)
  • Ability to run Windows XP/Vista (not Mac OS X Leopard for the Dell, legitimately)
  • LED screen
  • Automatic screen brightness screen
  • Keyboard illumination
  • Multi-touch trackpad
  • More subtle design
  • More aluminium than plastic
  • Thinner height wise
  • A little lighter :p
  • MagSafe power connector
  • DVI connector
  • FireWire 800 connector
  • Longer battery life (in comparison with the standard battery from Dell)
  • Better resale value
I can't think of anything else to add unless someone else can contribute some more? :p

Pay 50p for an banana. Or pay 90p for a pretty much identical banana.

It's more like Smart Price Beans vs Tesco Finest Beans. They are both baked beans but the Finest ones taste better and come in a better package. :)

And the Dell (note it has 1GB more memory and is otherwise exactly the same):

Yes the Dell is nice but it isn't an Apple. It isn't built like one, nor does it look like one, it won't function like one.

If you are happy with the Dell, and they make some good laptops then that's great but it does not mean the Apple is a rip off or not worth the extra money to others.

*sigh*

JimpsEd - just accept people prefer OS X - I don't buy my Mac for the fact it is a Mac, I buy it for the OS, and the stable platform it comes with.

Just accept that people prefer Macs to Windows, and that all you are really doing is trolling a load of people that have a different view to you, and you're just coming across as a jerk that can't accept that people like different things to you.

You may say a Mac and a Dell are the same - well yes they are on paper, but there are other tangible and intangible factors to go with the on paper facts.

Would just stick with white tbh.

I was talking to a friend recently and he said that the macbook's are better than the macbook pro's for wireless as the aluminum shell acts as a shield instead of helping to pick up signal. True?

Can someone photoshop a macbook so its the same colour as the blue ipod nano. :D I don't know if the colours would look good or rubbish I can't decide in my head. :D
