iphone 3g and O2?

Hi all,

if I bought a iphone 3g offline and put my O2 sim in it, will this work or will I need to unlocked it? will unlocking require me to install 3rd party apps too?

the 3g isn't unlocked, will only work on iPhone tariffs.

I'm 99% sure my friend is using his PAYG ihpone 3g on a different O2 contract.

Im on simplicity 25, which is £20 a month and works out cheaper than the £35 a month on the iphone contract.

Just bought a pay as you go 16gb 3g iphone from the warehoue.

Put in my simplicty sim and activated with no issues.

You can use any O2 SIM card and everything will work except for visual voicemail which is only for those who have the official iPhone contracts. Unfortunately, the PAYG versions don't have it. Another thing that will not work is EDGE if you are using a non-iPhone PAYG SIM card.

Cloud and BT Openzone, both which are Wi-Fi connections are included in both the official contracts and PAYG (free for 1 year, tied to the SIM card according to O2). With the Simplicity SIM card, you only get to choose "unlimited" bolt-on which does not include either of these Wi-Fi connections.

Well I went and bought the £35 a month one lol well chuffed. Also ordered a custom case from vajachoice.com - ivolution GT

Will post some pics up when It arrives, 20 days to make

So, you're saying if i stuck my simplicity SIM into an iPhone i can get all the basic functions (calls, texts, maps etc) without having to jailbreak it?

Sorry, can you please clarify so i can be 100% sure... Ive got the unlimited bolton at the moment, and you are saying i could use that to get on the net, just not via Cloud or Openzone?

Vaja cases are excellent, I always used them on my Palm devices. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

With the Simplicity SIM card, you can access the Internet via GPRS, EDGE or 3G (if you have an iPhone 3G). However, not Cloud and BT Openzone since they are not included in the bolt-on.

It's not really free since you are paying for the "bolt-on"

You have to register first for Cloud and BT Openzone before you are able to use it.

I took my Simplicity Sim from my 2g iPhone and put it in My new Pay&Go iPhone 3g. It activated without any problems and i can access the internet using 3g with the unlimited internet bolt on.

When i check my allowances by sending a blank text to 21202 i can see im not being charged anything extra for internet access.

Free access excludes Cloud and Openzone.

Heh, true. I was trying to say, you didnt have to pay extra for it (above the £20 / month i pay for the simplicity tarrif).

I assume once you have registered for Cloud and Openzone you have to pay?

Really tempted to get a PAYG iPhone now... Anyone got £400 spare?

All working fine, no visual voicemail though matey. But you wouldnt get that with pay as you go either.

Also how is this visual voicemail malarky supposed to work?

never used it with my unlocked original iphone either lol.

All else is working fine

on the simplicty £20 a month tarrif with unlimited web bolt on.

I dont think you get access to the free wifi, but thats not a biggy for me.

I went to an o2 shop the day the Pay&Go phones were released, all up and running minutes after getting it home.

Bought mine from the carphone warehouse. £400 for the 16gb, no brainer really, its only £50 more than the 8gb so worth doing.

Phones are selling for silly money on the auction sites, and i mean silly money. As in retail price for a secondhand, handset.

Also whats to stop the person 3 months down the line, calling o2 and saying the phone was lost or stolen, getting bar put on it and then claiming off any insurance they have for a new one?
