Custom Arcade / Fight Sticks

I like the art on the MadCatz SE, though the TE looks more classy and minimalistic.

That said I wouldn't go out my way to put art on a stick if I was actually building it.

Why are the Hori Fight Stick 3's so rare? I got one for my PS3 a couple of years ago and it cost me nothing (bro worked in a game shop, but even then it was only marked up for £9.99 second hand).

Under 18's should not look!! UGLY WARNING!!

As promised....

It's ugly and it's too small and sharp to use comfortably (or for more than 2 minutes full stop!!), but it was made very quickly (wiring in about 10 mins) and it has served its purpose.

Now I know how much bigger I need one, I have the tools to do it and I know exactly (yeah right!! but roughly anyway) how it's done.
Propper build coming up in the next couple of weeks I guess :D

Who's next to show their shame?? ;)

They're still available if you look in the right places but not for a tenner any more.

I built an arcade controller some years back which I used with Mame and a couple of consoles at the time, wondering if I should dig it out the garage and re-wire it for my 360:-

Wondered when you'd turn up. Your CP was the inspiration for me to start years ago.

Hence....

Was made a good few years ago now with terrible, terrible parts!!
I-pac used in it is ok and perfectly fine for the vast majority of mame games, however if two players are playing SFII it can't handle all of the inputs at once and becomes unresponsive to commands when it has too much else going on.

Because the stick was ugly, cheap and didn't work as well as i'd hoped I became dispondant and didn't bother doing it properly. It gathered dust and I'm pretty sure my Dad threw it out when I moved out.

Still, was good fun to do and frankly GSXR, all your fault!! :p

How easy is it to do the wiring on one off these things for the xbox 360?

I could easily do the box and fit everything in it but I've not do any proper electrical stuff before (I once soldered two wires together)!

360 is the hardest electronically I'm afraid.
PC and PS3 can be done with purpose built PCB's, I believe for a wireless 360 stick you are forced to use a pad hack.
Not the hardest thing to do but far more difficult that simply screwing/soldering a wire into a custom built board.....

damn... it doesn't need to be wireless though.

Maybe I should just make a usb one for my mame.
I really want to make one... i like having a little project.... maybe i should just tidy my shed.

The soldering is incredibly easy on the madcatz pads, it's really the very basic level stuff and I did mine with zero soldering experience.

same reason you would want a wireless pad i guess? lol.

people say theres latency issues when you go wireless but its its not there on pads then why would it be there on sticks? i've never understood that

Risk of lag, de-syncing and battery use puts me off wireless arcade sticks. :)
