Just ordered one of these for upcoming windows 7. Should i partition some of it for the os and rest for storage if so how big should the partition be?

I partitioned mine ~ 200Gb for win 7 OS / 40gb apps /400Gb games

I was thinking of 100Gb for os+games and the rest for storage. Good idea?

why not get 160 gb or say 80gb HDD seperatly for os+apps?

or do 100 for OS/apps
400 for games
and leave 500 for storage

A smaller drive will have poor performance unless it's an SSD.

Create a system partition for windows and keep it as small as possible and create it first so it it on the outside of the platter thus have lower access times (30-40GB) Then create a Game/application partition as big as you think you'll need don't make it excessive though. Then have a storage partition of whats left using the slow access inner part of the platter. If you keep the System partition about 30GB you'll have an access time of about 8.1ms accross the whole partition which is good for boot times.

Got the drive today. I've partition the first 100gb for os 400gb for games and apps and the rest for storage. However since installing it there's a smell coming from the pc. It wasn't there before. Is this typical for new hard drives?

i've got antec 902 case can see no smoke or burning. Hd tunes shows temp 23c. The drives working perfectly though.

Not the hard drive then. Any windows open or anything? A few times i thought the smell was comign from pc but was out side. Like someone said, shut down the pc and have a look inside see what is happening.
