Guys, I think I've discovered a possible problem here that I also had with NFS Shift until I installed a patch for it. My car doesn't seem to be able to hit top speeds. Maximum speed I can hit is 214mph and barely 219mph by the end of the long straight of spa after eau rouge, where I'm sure I should be able to get over 230mph shouldn't I? At the end of the first straight of Sau Paulo coming from a second continuous lap, max speed just about gets to 214mph and the engine is screaming as though it's redlined, even if my 7th gear is set to 227mph or higher. What kind of speeds are you able to get at the end of the first straight of both tracks?

Do a run with 1/1 downforce, fast engine mapping and a 7th gear of about 230mph on the back straight of chinese track and report what your top speed is.

Still not much difference. I didn't try the chinese track yet, I'll do that now. On Spa though, with 1/1 downforce, engine fast throttle, and default gear setup, 7th is meant to reach 220mph, it reaches 217mph. If I increase 7th to 237mph, it reaches 224mph by the very end of the first stretch before having to brake, and there's plenty of time for it to have reached more.

I think 237 is far too long a gear, would need a couple of miles to get up to that speed.

Ah, fair enough. Maybe everything is ok then. I do seem to be redlining though from 1 to 3mph below whatever the set gear speed is, is that normal? I'm trying out someones setup for sao paulo where his 7th gear is set to 218mph and it hits the end of the rev limiter at 215mph before the end of the first straight.

I think you're right by the way, I've never noticed it before but I just had a quick run there and you do hit the limiter about 3mph before the setup says you should in the higher gears, 1mph in 1st. At least you know now it isn't just you, it's a weird one though:confused:.

Ah! Yeah, that's right, lower gears are giving me 1mph lower than stated maximum and top gear seems to be 3mph lower. Well yeah, it's good it's not just me, but I was also kind of hoping something was wrong with my game because now I have to face the fact that it's just my driving which is not up to scratch :p

I think this is the greatest lap I have ever done in this game, so much so that I actually recorded the replay of it. I kept looking behind me in astonishment at the ghost, then I took my hand off the controller to press F10 and hit the wall hence me rubbing up against the wall in the screeny. Youtube link will be up as soon as the file has been compressed to something more manageable from 1.5GB. :D:D:D

If I can go faster than this then deko should watch out :p:p

Lol Sparc, nice one.

Well, I'm sort of getting there. After a billion laps trying to match let alone beat my personal best ghost, I thought to myself " **** this, I'm getting no rewards for my effort" and then finally was able to beat my personal best, but only just. I keep trying to remember a great saying.. 'slow is smooth....smooth is fast', it kinda helps. Long way to go though.

Absolutely ! When I get annoyed I start to attack the track in anger and make silly mistakes, but if I just relax a bit and try to ignore my ghost then it starts to come together.

Yep, me too, it's the worst thing to do. I've been raging at times with frustration trying to keep up with my ghost and failing. I was reading a motorbiking forum last night about improving laptimes, and some experts were talking about how never to 'chase' but rather to always keep it smooth and steady and precise, to make sure basics are down first. Found it quite useful. Also, I've been leaning forward and now I'm sitting back in the chair which helps me stay relaxed. Anyway, as inam22 always says,

"slight improvement!!" :D

Well happy with this :D btw I take my hand off the controller to take a screeny, that's why I hit the wall.

*waits for Mr.F to set a 1:03:600 :p
